firstly if all you use it for is emailing and internet etc then you don't need to spend more than £500 if that. secondly don't buy a mac!

Why waste a  £1000 then.

Sub £500 laptop will be more than adequate.

no matter what laptop you buy, budget for ripping the hard drive out and replacing it with a solid state.

I was just thinking may aswell get a decent one our work does computer loans no interest up to a £1000. So if I spend money on a decnt money at least if I do wanna do more with it then I can. Can also use it for programming the ecu on my motorcross bike.

As said, you really don't need to spend £1000. I bought a £700 Acer 6930G 3 years ago and the specs still stack up today (has Blu-Ray, 3GB RAM etc)

I work in IT at a big High School and we just bought 30 Acer 5742Z laptops for around £300/£400 and the specs are very good.

But if you insist, then this is more than enough spec and you have change. http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Samsung_RF711_Core_i7_Bluray_Laptop__NP-RF711-S06UK/version.asp (http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Samsung_RF711_Core_i7_Bluray_Laptop__NP-RF711-S06UK/version.asp)

if you dont want to buy another one for another 5 - 10 years depending on how you look after it
buy a mac - mine has never skipped a beat

battery life is excellent
no antivirus bullsh*t
no need for maintanence
push the power button and your online in 10 seconds
machined aluminium construction, not cheap sh*t plastic
wont start to overheat 12-18 months down the line
apple are very easy to deal with and super helpful
if you know a student, you can get a 20% discount via their uni portal
operating system is alot easier to navigate than windows

dont listen to the haters, i used to hate them with a passion untill i bought myself one

+1 Mac's p*ss on Microsoft !! Nothing but problems with Microsoft !! After a couple of months they go slow and sluggish esp when you have antivirus on there. If you have a grand to spend buy the MBP 13"with i5 chip   and you will never go back to Microsoft . And yes i'm a fanboy

Not sure whay these mac boys are talking about  I am starting to think this whole apple thing a ponzi scheme  :lipsrsealed:

Anyway... I have always run laptops (sony) and never had any problems. I would go for this and save a few pennies + get a good machine
