Title: Re: Blue Temp Sender
Post by: paul69 on 10 November 2011, 11:21
I want to set up my digi as per Rubjonny's guide, but have a question regarding the Blue Temp Sender. Rj says to change this for a new one, but is that only if you haven't got a blue one already? Do you change it regardless of whether it is still working or not, and if so,how often do you need to change it?
I have done a search but couldn't find an answer!

Remove the connector to it when engine is warmed up. If engine noise doesn't change it's definately fubared.

VW Wayside in  St Albans are saying that is the recommended price! How can there be such a difference? I want this for Saturday as it is in the garage anyway and I haven't got the tools to tune it myself!

I would guess from the picture with the OOOO Vag details Removed that it's a pretty fair assumption that it's not a genuine one...

And it's £10.00 cheaper than a VAG one.... BBT/VW Heritage cheaper than a dealer for genuine parts that's a joke....

It says "repro" in the description, which I assume means reproduction.

Does an engine come with that?

I agree the geniuine ones are better made, but I've always said any sender is just a temperature pick up so if the water and anti freeze is in good nick as the oil it should improve the life of the sender. GSF should be a good one I've always thought?

Some sensors give totally the wrong value of resistance at given temperatures, making them useless. The temp sensors can govern quite a few things further down the line, so can throw many other settings out. So it is important to make sure the replacement is true/accurate. On a temp sensor purely for a dash gauge its not so critical, as it may under/over read, but as long as you know its at the 'normal' position /right temp and not over heating, fans work but hardly get used etc then its ok. On an ecu/wur etc reading sensor its far more important
