Wow, anyone reckon we're going to see the end of the Red Arrows for a while?

2 Tragedies in such a short space of time, thoughts go out to his family

Erm, have u read the article . The plane was on the ground, it has something to do with the ejector seat. It just so happens to be a red arrow.

As with anything , there is hype surrounding the arrows at the moment. Neither death has occurred during an actual display.

Nothing unfortunate about it.  With SDSR cutting budgets left right and centre, they should've been the first thing that got chopped.

RIP nonetheless.

Hate to say it, but the reds and the bbmf should have been chopped before any front line person or equipment. Really hate to say it.

Agree with that 100% but it is unfortunate for those that will never see them at an airshow.

Although how much money from merch, bookings etc do they bring into the forces?

Not enought to justify their existence i'd imagine

Some websites suggest £15-20m a year to keep them in the air. Shows abroad are funded by sponsors and not our tax money.

I guess the benefit of getting youngsters into the RAF has decreased due to less opportunity/recruitment?

Slow promotion puts people off, plus I've known people to pvr due to unforfilled expectations and other sh!t that the old timers (20 odd years service) never saw in thier day.

£5m per jet, plus crew, per year to keep them in the sky, and for a member of the public to request a display it would normally cost around the £30-50k mark, so we're nearly as bad a Bugatti at maths.

Neither death has occurred during an actual display.

Wasn't the first death in a display?

It was actually on its last turn before returning to Bournemouth airport.

Thats just being pedantic. A return to the airfield after a display is display related.

Were they not based in Southampton airport? Think they were, they just happened to fly over Bournemouth's airport.

There is a pretty big difference between a car and a plane is there not?  :lipsrsealed:

There is - one has no visible means of support - clearly this will fail from time to time, especially when you're giving it a bloody good test.

Fly planes for a living and you need to realise from time to time the ground may kill you.

Better short and glorious than long and dull.

If he was happy and he died happy, I have no problem with it.. Sorry mate, I see too many people cruising through life with the "what if" attitude.. Grab it by the horns and f**king ride it!!!!
