Title: Comedy electrics
Post by: Ribraff on 02 May 2005, 20:38
Hi

I have a few problems with the electrics on my 1600 Mk1, first of all the revcounter stopped working along with the temp gauge and fuel gauge, this  has now turned into an intermittent fault! This much i could live with but now the dipped beam headlights have gone, the main beam works no problem i have checked the switch and that is fine. My question is this.... Is there a relay for the lights? Could this be an ignition barrel problem? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Ribraff.
Check the small earth wire that goes to the the rear of the cylinder head and is bolted to the rocker cover, this could be the dash fault. As for the lights, if you have power from the switch, check the fuses and the bulbs.
Steve.

The device that controls these three instruments is the voltage regulator and is on the back of the cluster.
If your clock and LEDs are working, I am 99% sure thats the culprit.
