clean all round the sump/oil pan, but its doubtfull that even with a weepy sump gasket its losing that much, you need to check with it up on ramp/axles stands at a level to see if you can see if its running from somewhere else then onto the sump, hopefully not a crank seal gone, but im sure if its lost over a litre in a week you see wehere its coming from ,........

crank seals (pulley or flywheel end)
oil fitler rubber seal

not alot else really to spue that amount of oil on to your arse end!!

if its oil filter tis easy, just get a new one and fit it just make sure you smeer the new rubber seal with fresh wngine oil before you fit, have you had an oil change etc done recently??

ibe had a rubber seal fail on me before on an oil filter, changed the oil+filter the day before, went to work, on the way home the oil light came on... the seal had split... and pumped the contents of the sump onto the orad, luckily id iddnt seize it up........

hope its a simple fix for you.... oil leaks are a pain in the ass, one drp spreads like wild fire and can be hard to trace.....

dose sound like your filter seal though ....

by the way oil is all over the crossmember in front of the filter i'd be inclined to agree it's the filter seal. it's like it's been forced out under pressure. you may as well put the new one on now anyway.

if it is like we think the filter seal, it will only leak whilst the engine is running.....

so crank it up and watch...

tried replacing the oil pressure switch on the top of the oil filter housing, It's hard to spot but mine went on the old white valver and i had no idea where it was coming from until i put it on a ramp and prodded about all around the oil filter, then bingo there it was dribbling oil everywhere.

Might be worth a look, if it is they cost about £3 from GSF and take all of 5 mins to replace.

yep, pitstop pointed that out to me as a common place for oil to piss out of  :undecided:

aye just squeeze the wee rubber boot on top of the senders, if oil is coming out of them then the wee boot will be full of oil

i recently replaced the gaskets on my oil filter. pretty easy enough. there is a gasket for the oil filter housing and also a gasket/ rubber o-ring that goes between the filter housing and oil cooler - got both from German Swedish

it aint the fillter

changed filter and done an oil change.... its leakin from somewhere else, but its round there... not sure if its the oil cooler gasket... gunna steam the underneath and de grease and see if i can see where its leaking from

oh and there was only 2 litres of oil drained out

and i put 1ltr of it in the other day

Your best bet is to gunk the engine then give it a good steam clean, just do it on a day when you dont intend to use the car as it wont want to run to well for a while after, let it stand up and dry out.

Then hopefully you'll find the leak easier.

I know how much of a pain it is when your car keeps leaking oil. I've done the dizzy, sump gasket, cam gasket and still have an oil leak on the bell housing which I have diagnosed as a crank main seal gone, oh well gearbox out again.

Good luck with it.

Look at my post on the other page.

Look for this above the oil filter housing, you will only see the white top and a cable coming off it.

When mine was leaking oil from this area it turned out to be the 'o' ring between the two parts of the oil cooler (not between the filter & oil cooler, if that makes any sense.. lol)

To take the 2 parts apart you need to remove the oil filter, then unscrew the nut which clamps the 2 parts together (27mm socket iirc), then the square part should slide off the pipe which the filter screws on to...

You should then see the 'o' ring, whip it off (the o ring.. lol) then smear some clean oil on the new 1 then re assemble...

Hope this helps u out ;)
