Hi all.
Just been out my mates Golf Gti 16v (1990) and its having trouble going into 1st gear.
It seems hard to put the car into 1st gear, also theres a fair ammount of 'play' when u move the
gearstick around when its in neutral.
Is this a common problem and is it easy to fix? I have no idea!
Thanks

Start by buying a gearlinkage repair kit from http://www.gsfcarparts.com or ebay, should tighten everything up nicely. Then get a weighted shift rod from a rod change MK3 (pretty much any MK3 that isn't a GTI), makes it much easier & smoother to change gear.
