Title: Carb Cleaner, Brake cleaner, Engine Cleaner, Any really difference?
Post by: DanChave on 07 November 2011, 11:43
I already have some brake cleaner lying around and I want to start cleaning my engine up so I can see where the oil leaks are coming from! Is using brake cleaner going to cause any damage for any reason? I am going to order some Gunk aerosol engine cleaner but I thought I could make a start with this until it arrives!

Brake cleaner is the bomb when it comes  to breaking oil down, its pretty safe for cleaning most things really, even body work

Yeah man, I was really impressed actually :) Kells on here gave me a tip, WD40 is spot on for cleaning the plastics and hoses!

I was thinking of cleaning my Carb out using brake cleaner tomorrow, Take it all off and do it properly!

And the OCD begins..........

Not as such, it will likely be a heavier substance, not evaporating as well from something like brakes and leaving residue that you dont want on brakes. Some have additives for corrosion protection, you dont want anything like that on a braking surface

Cool, thanks for pointing that out :) I'm not that great when it comes to mechanics so I'm trying to learn as much as I can!
