Title: 1.4 aex with mayo in oil cap
Post by: dubpirate on 06 November 2011, 17:38
right guys iv had my golf 3 for about 3 weeks

great car

just looked under the oil cap tody and its packed with mayo it wasnt there when i bought the car

i do reasonably short jurneys everyday

but do an average of 150 miles a week

there is no mayo or crud in the expansion bottle

the temp is always fine no problems never goes over half

the engine has only done 64k

should i be preparing for headgasket

or would a good service  cure the problem

thanks dan

you can wipe the mayo off  seller most likely did this and most likely why he sold the car.

mayo can be a couple of things but most the time it's headgasket.

Get a compression test done and if one or two cylinders is down then I would suggest headgasket

Mayo with an AEX is fine, especially with short journeys.

Mine had it when it had 30k miles on the clock......

Ive just bought a mk4 polo for the misses, it also has an AEX.

It also has quite alot of mayo and we owned it two weeks.

I'd bet my car that its fine..........

Mayo is quite often condensation and mixxes oil and water at top end. seen it seize tappets before on astra 8v. which its so common for doing on those engines. if your that bothered put a good engine flush through and replace oil and filter. as mentioned before could allso be head gasket. but it would be running pritty crappy tbh if that was the case. also exp bottle would most likely be creamy too

Just keep an eye on it and see if it comes back.

Short trips cause it, but also some oils can be prone to it.
Try changing the oil for a good quality semi synthetic and take the car for a decent run.

My bottom end went with the same symptoms, maybe I was just unlucky.

So I did this :D
