Anyone know how you claim back a deposit paid for something with paypal if the item when you go and collect it was not as described so you did not go through with winning the auction?
-
Was the deposit paid via a gift on paypal? If so Don't think there is anything you can do. Unless the deposit being paid was part of the auction which ebay had some sort of 'control' over. :undecided:

No not a gift just a direct payment to an email address. The email address was sent to me via ebay messenger.

Item not as described = breach of contract. Raise a complaint direct with ebay. I did this with an Box. Once the dispute is raised ebay will do most of the work too you. You don't need to contact papal directly.

There ya go  Good luck with it.

Thanks,
Was not sure if as i paid the deposit by using the payment option of paypal, using an email address given to me via ebay messenger, rather than paying outright via the ebay checkout link, i had to go through paypal rather than ebay.

Open a dispute with paypal, you don't need to have bought anything from ebay to open a dispute ; https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/CaseManagement/customerservice/EducationBuyerOverview (https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/CaseManagement/customerservice/EducationBuyerOverview)
Have you not asked for your deposit back from the seller as the goods were not as described?
Out of curiousity what was wrong with the item?
