Title: tdi just died
Post by: EsSeX dAn on 05 November 2011, 10:27
i was driving about half hour ago and my car just died!its a mk4 tdi110 with 170k on the clock. its been having a bit of a vibrating/bearingy sound over the last few days and felt a little sluggish. now the sound got louder and it felt slower and the next thing....dead. wont start or anything. theres no engine management light or anything so im rather confused now. whats happened?im currently waiting for a recover lorry. oh when i had the bonnet open trying to start it i could see some smoke coming from the back of the engine. what could that be?

clutch is fine cambelt is ok too. the engine just doesnt fire. it turns over ok and the glow plugs seem to work. it got diagnosed by greenflag as something like immobiliser lockout

probably a failed in-tank fuel pump.

to check if it is working, lift rear seat up behind driver seat, lift carpet flap on rear seat floor, ask someone to put the ignition on,and you should hear the buzz of the in-tank fuel pump,if you do not hear the buzz, then the pump is kaput

ok ill try that. im leaning toward something else though as when the greenflag bloke sprayed easy start down the air filter still nothing happened. ill try it anyway though always worth a go

the noise getting louder sound like some failure within the engine-camshaft perhaps
