Major work, so much needs changing that I cannot really see that it is worth it.

The fact that your converting from Petrol to Diseasal will be a pita as you have to swap over a lot extra. You'll have to get a donor car and swap pretty much everything over including.
I say if your 1.4 is completely mint and rust free and you've got the skills/time/money then go for it, not many Mk3's running PD lumps and if you keep it looking like a poverty spec Mk3 you could surprise a few people in it!
Go for a 130PD :wink:

I would love to see this happen, been looking at some Mk3 diesels which have been boosted and they have hit around 160bhp with lots of torque to back it up.
The PD engine is much more efficient and i think can be pushed near to 200bhp safely.
I am talking completely of the top here but I would think you would need a lot of the Mk4/audi donor car and a bunch of bits from a std Mk3 diesel and some bits of a 16v/VR6 petrol.
Mk3 bits are cheap as chips but not sure on PD engine and required extras, also custom parts for exhaust system might be hard or £££ to find
I am sure someone will put you right on exactly what you need then its a search on the net to price it all up :smiley:

PD = pumpe duse

Everyone seems to do 1.8t conversions in mk3s be different if you can wack a PD in it I would be really intrested to see this type of conversion and it makes sense.I would think in the long run aswell a PD would hold its value better than a more common petrol conversion.

The main problem is the wiring, not very easy to sort also hard to find donor engine / cars hence why it is not a very common conversion.
I don't like diesels and prefer engines that rev which could be another reason.

there was/is a place called dubshack in birmingham/midlands area that fits the pd to mk1 and 2's so I guess it's doable (how much work is anyone's guess but It's worth searching for info about them and seeing what they do etc)
I don't know if they still exist but I'm sure google will have something about them?

I agree dervs dont rev as much but I dont think thats a reason why people dont do PD conversions I would say its because the 1.8t is just a easy option and maybe cheaper plus you can buy 1.8t alot less than a more desirable diesel.There will be donor cars out there you just got to keep an eye out im sure a car would come along eventually at a reasonable price,kell wanted a certian engine with low milage and he found it eventually.As for the wiring etc I dont know much about the work involved but dont the Challenge of doing the conversion make it enjoyable and I done it the whole point?I personally think the 1.8t conversion has been done to death in alot of Golfs now and yes its a great affordable conversion but I just wouldnt mind seeing something that doesnt get done that often just my view.Like you dont like diesels Im simlar I dont dislike petrol cars but after owning a diesel I dont think I could go back to a petrol car now :wink:

A7 UFO had a PD in his mk2 and I don't think he was keen on it even after all the work of getting it and running.
it is something different however.
