after at least 16 yrs of drinking good olde english tea, im now bored of it, its flavourless to me

so what do you all drink? any coffee tips or anything worth trying?
cheers!

I like a coffee with my McDonalds. I like a good cup of earl grey, and lady grey. Try the Twinings range, it's awesome.
-
Yorkshire tea
-
Coffee....the stronger the better! I'm loving Illy Espresso from my Bialetti coffee pot at the moment
-
Drink both, like my tea really strong with half a sugar and litterally a few drops of milk. Coffee I like black with half a sugar. Really fussy on how its made too and hate it when someone hands you some piss water disguised as tea.
-
I drink tea in the morning, and coffee not a second before 12pm. I can't stand coffee first thing in the morning it makes me feel sick! A good old cup of tea first thing goes down a treat! 1 sugar in tea, 2 in coffee.

This!! Strong tea rules!!
Although I will have a coffee every now and then, it has to be a Double Ristretto Venti Nonfat Organic Chocolate Brownie Frappuccino Extra Hot with Foam and Whipped Cream Upside Down Double Blended! not to be fussy or anything

i drink about 15 coffees a day even just before bed some nights.......am an addict
-
I love tea nice strong tea with a drop of milk no sugar. BUT reciently I've discovered coffee mate ( the brand) and I love it so creamy.
-
I always put the milk into my tea first.
And before you all say "That's wrong"
Here's my argument -
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2003/jun/25/science.highereducation
Half the population of Britain will take this as a declaration of war. After months of research the Royal Society of Chemistry has announced the answer to a question that for generations has shattered households, sundered friendships, splintered relationships: the milk should go in first. It is all to do with denaturing milk proteins, according to Dr Andrew Stapley, a chemical engineer from Loughborough University.
There are other contentious points at issue: microwaves come into the perfect cup of tea, and the recommendation that the tea itself should be loose Assam will certainly be taken as blatant provocation by the Darjeeling and Lapsang Souchong factions.
Above all, the society could be seen as spitting on the grave of George Orwell, having commissioned the research to celebrate today's centenary of his birth - and concluded that he was quite wrong in his own recipe, published as A Nice Cup of Tea in the Evening Standard in 1946.
The chemists and the author of Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty Four are in agreement on Indian tea, and a china or earthenware teapot. There is a minor divergence over warming the pot: Orwell recommended placing the pot on a hob, Dr Stapley defends a microwave as a 21st century equivalent. But on the issue of milk the gap is unbridgeable.
Orwell wrote: "By putting the tea in first and stirring as one pours, one can exactly regulate the amount of milk, wheras one is likely to put in too much milk if one does it the other way round."
Dr Stapley is adamant. "If milk is poured into hot tea, individual drops separate from the bulk of the milk, and come into contact with the high temperatures of the tea for enough time for significant denaturation - degradation - to occur. This is much less likely to happen if hot water is added to the milk."
Veteran tea drinker Tony Benn test-drove the perfect cup of tea yesterday, at the London headquarters of the society. He calculates that he has got through 27,375 gallons in 60 years, and is a tea first, milk second man. The milk went in first. The tea was poured in. He sniffed. He sipped. He pondered. "It's very tasty, I must say," he said. He sipped again. "Oh, it's delicious."
The chemists purred - and then last night the physicists waded in and said all that matters is the water temperature, not the milk. "Trust chemists to make things complicated," Institute of Physics chief executive Dr Julia King said. "When it boils down to it, the physics is more important than the chemical side of things."
· Chemists' recipe
The Royal Society of Chemistry's definitive recipe for the perfect cup of tea
Ingredients Loose leaf Assam tea, soft water, fresh chilled milk, white sugar.
Implements Kettle, ceramic teapot, large ceramic mug, fine mesh tea strainer, tea spoon, microwave oven.
Method Draw fresh soft water and place in the kettle and boil. While waiting for the water to boil place a tea ot containing a quarter of a cup of water in a microwave oven on full power for one minute.
Place one rounded teaspoon of tea per cup into pot.
Take the pot to the kettle as it is boiling, pour on to the leaves and stir.
Leave to brew for three minutes.
The ideal receptacle is a ceramic mug.
Pour milk into the cup first followed by the tea, aiming to achieve a colour that is rich and attractive.
Add sugar to taste.
Drink at 60-65C, to avoid vulgar slurping which results from trying to drink tea at too high a temperature.
To gain optimum ambience for enjoyment of tea aim to achieve a seated drinking position in a favoured home spot where quietness and calm will elevate the moment.

-

-
  didnt read it

-
forget soaring oil prices and the middle eastern war, this is a much more important subject at the moment!
when i make tea...
tea bag in
hot water in but leave about 2cm of height of mug at the top
quick stir and leave for a minute for tea leaves to defuse
stir again, remove tea bag and strain
place sugar in
place milk in
stir 20 times
perfect!

The perfect cup of coffee
Take a single cup french press like the one below
http://mokajoe.blogspot.com/2011/04/why-you-should-buy-french-press.html (http://mokajoe.blogspot.com/2011/04/why-you-should-buy-french-press.html)
Then 1 scoop of sainsburys all day coffee into the press (good reasonably priced and not bitter)
Boil the kettle and leave it for 5 minutes,
Add water to the french press and lt it stew for 3-4 minutes.
press the plunger
pour
add cream and sugar to taste(of you want to spoil it that is)
enjoy
-
that is a load of tosh...
tea bag in
sugar in
water in
milk in
leave in t bag for longer if required
or sometimes dont remove at all
-

-
Does it mean leave the microwaved water in the pot?
Anyway, water into teapot with one too many tea bags, milk in cup wait to brew for a good few minutes and then pour into cup, stir if needed then drink.
Cup method on last resort I.e all the shops are shut and you can't borrow one from the neighbors :
Cup
Teabag
Water
Stir
Wait
Stir
Remove bag
Milk
Stir
GTFO with sugar.
-

Got to agree with that

Milk should be the last thing in, whether its Tea or Coffee,
I hate it when I'm made a cup of Coffee, by whoever, and they say that they have made it "especially milky" for you like its a f**king treat!
Thom
-
With coffee you should add the milk first as the hot water burns the coffee beans. Have know idea how I know that lol.
-
Question is, when does the cock go in?
-
Question is, when does the cock go in?
It doesn't.
Unless a thingy is making the tea.
-
I've got a Tassimo thats been sat on top the fridge/freezer for about 2 years unused now. Instant all the way! Cant be arsed with the whole brewing up process, interupts my busy modding lifestyle! Also Tea shouldn't be too strong imo, leaves a nasty aftertaste and a film on your tongue.
-
the cock goes in to stir it, lol
as for coffee, a poster above is right, its possible to burn the granules
1 ts of coffee
X ts of sugar
milk so you just cover the granules
stir into a 'paste'
add hot water
stir 20 times
:smug:
-
Seeing as tho the topic of the night seems to be around the hot beverage does anyone have a favourite mug or cup they always use

can somebody tell me please what the difference is with using a coffee machine to the traditional coffee into a cup?
:undecided:
-
You sir are a coffee conisser
-
Having worked with people from all over the country for a dozen or so years, in 90% of cases northerners put milk in last, where as southerners put it in 1st. I'm with the latter obviously, and I think the same can be said with tea bags/leaves with regard to scorching the coffee beans.
And the cock goes in first otherwise You'll burn it stupid! I know this as I've worked for a few thingys in the past so gave them a cheesy treat with their tea!
-
thats really nifty

Everyone needs an oversized mug for the morning
-
Normally play split the pack for brews which means making about 10 brews at one time, as such, its easier to pull out the paper cups, write what everyone wants, throw it in the cup, add the water, then stir in the milk.. gives the bag enough time to steep while you add all the milk and is all done in a time efficient manner!
-
i havnt got an oversized mug
think ppl need to get pics up of their mugs!... lol

Unless you can point to the contrary, I believe that "Milk in First" is/was done to preserve the integrity of fine bone china cups.
Nothing to do with taste. Just to stop your mug from exploding.
Jonathan.
And for the record, I put milk in last, as this is logical.
Why?
Well if you put too much milk in first and the tea is not strong enough, you've ruined your brew.
Milk in last lets you fine tune.
-
can`t beat a fresh ground coffee in the morning before logging on and getting on with work
tea at home.
-
This: Highly amusing for when the family comes round. A mate bought it for me - shame I don't drink hot drinks so I rarely use it. My one is NOT censored...

milk last. fact. even converted the wife and her family as elvi says its all about the fine tuning, those tests were probably done with precise quantaties of hot water and milk :nerd:
-

-
Milk in last !!
-
milk in last FTW!!
-
the gf always puts sugar is with the teabag first before how water, it does my head in but the bint wont listen, i feel that sugar can stick to the teabag, therefore wasting the needed sugar and changing the taste of what it could/should of been
if you want something done right, do it yourself :undecided:

These are awesome filled with expresso, mmmmmmm
-
Tea bag in
Just boiled water in
Leave for ages
Tea bag out (give it a good old swizz and squeeze first)
Sugar in
Stir
Whilst it's spinning round, add the milk (if it's still spinning the milk mixes straight away so you don't accidentally put too much in, which would be gross)
Reason being it should be properly hot to brew, milk in first would lower the temp!
-
Milk in last....you can't argue with George Orwell!!
-
half a cup of boiling water. tea bag in untill the water is black, three sugars, half a cup of milk
-
Coffee FTW, tea is vile
Black and strong enough to stand a spoon up in it. Milk is the devils work.
-
Just get her indoors to make it. Sorted!
Reckless neglect of tea-making quality control alert!
Milk ALWAYS in last.
Training works wonders.
I also heard the fat in the milk blocks the holes in the teabag.
-
apparently milk in first is for when the milk is nearly out of date ...................
it stoppes the milk leaving floaty bits on the top :undecided:
but in last ................ for normal people

I think there's different methods at play here.
The article is clearly talking about making tea in a pot. Which if you do, gives you the option to let the tea brew in the pot before putting it into the cup and whether you put milk in the cup first or last it's not going to affect the brewing of the tea in the pot.
When you make tea in a mug with a teabag, it's a different matter because putting milk onto a dry teabag in a cup, then pouring the hot water on is clearly going to affect the temperature of the liquid in the cup, thus affecting the brewing of the tea.
So if making tea in a mug, always put the milk in after the tea.
I can't stand milky tea or tea that's not brewed for long enough, what's the point if it's not got any flavour?
As for sugar, I always put sugar in the mug with the tea bag and then pour on the water, because sugar dissolves better in boiling water than in water that has cooled down.

I'm mainly a tea drinker, but have recently been having more coffee, particularly the latte, cappucino types.
If you're a coffee drinker (a proper one who likes coffee from real beans), then check out http://www.londoncoffeeroasters.com/ (http://www.londoncoffeeroasters.com/)
These guys are friends who import coffee beans direct, roast them themselves, grind and ship to you so that they're as fresh as possible.
