I always get nervous before mot time, ive done all the pre-checks and tightened the handbrake today got the 2 clicks back, also given it a nice clean up inside,
seems to be that every year they advise a wheel bearing needs doing but when i took it to get them done they said they replaced them but actually just needed a nip up.
i'll report back tomorrow with details
-
topmounts seem to be on all my advisories now , this was true for my old mk3 and my current mk4
-
Booked mine for 1pm on Monday today. Fingers crossed it flies through, and they dont comment on my hammer and underseal effort on the o/s sill. Apart from that, an advisory on 'slight freeplay in steering column top mount' should be it...................I hope. :undecided:
-
My MOT is next tuesday morning! Pretty nervous as I know my car isn't the best
-
What's wrong with MOT times? :lipsrsealed:
How did you adjust the handbrake btw?
-
mine's tomorrow morning :( sh!tting myself ....
-
Mine is in Feb, last one Alan didn't even get an advisory. But it's always "rear suspension arm corroded" with me. Every car I've had it seems haha

well just dropped her off,
adjustment's from inside the car , remove the rear ash tray and you'll find two screws holding the plastic
handbrake cover on, remove cover and pull off, youll see the adjusting srcrews now.
from memory use a 10mm spanner to losen off nut that sits agaisnt the other adjuster nut and there you go very
easy.
make sure when youve adjusted the cables they pull even on both sides, also note: dont do it so tight
it snaps your cable/s when you pull up on the handbrake (or you'll be back on here giving me grief LOL)
think with mk3's you should be getting 2 clicks or 3 at the max.
very early for me today so hope this makes sense

Good luck :afro:

Ah right. Just that's not the proper way really mate. You need to take the drums off and adjust the shoes, just tightening the cables makes the shoes wear uneven.

1- easy enough
2- labourious ball ache but not complicated
3- simple enough if your shaft aint glued into the hub
-
better get on with it as soon as i have some money :) i'l get some of my mechanic friends to give ma hand :)
-
Get your mechanic friend to check the bearings are gone as one MOT tester I know always advises them but if it has drums at the back, these types of bearings naturally have a bit of play and is allowed.
-
yeh has drums at back so il get them checked :)

Speaking of filler cat not sealing. I have noticed on mine when I put her in the garage at night or after a long drive and turn the engine off my fuel cap makes a constant pressure releasing sound like a whistle. Is that normal?
-
Just got back from mine, - FAIL!
Not at all bad though which I'm glad. I had a side light out too (which I should have noticed), and I need a new passanger headlight if anyone has one going spare for a few beer tokens!? This was because it was quite far off and the adjustment mech has was snapped. I joey'd my lights a while back, and I put them in the oven for a few minutes to break the seal. Needless to say, I left it in a bit too long and it melted. :embarassed:. Anyway not an expensive fix, so get this all sorted and another years ticket. No advisories either so bonus really.

glad it isnt going to cost to much sean.
WELL mine on the other hand LOL.........the ABS sensors needed are both rears, however i had a call from the gagrage today said their replacing the sensors but theres another fault code coming up (ABS pump failing) which is major bucks if its ecu related :(
i'm going to have a cry about my bank balance tonight and more
due to the fact i'm spending my motorbike money saved for
a year,
i'm so bobed off but i blew my whistle before directing the traffic

I believe its normal stainsey will just be vacuum pressure, you'll notice it more when you've had your foot planted on a long journey or if you sit on the redline like me
-
people putting lights in the oven
use a heat gun  takes two minutes and only the glass will get hot.
good luck with ya cars

-
Haa to right lol all gd for another year lol new mot papers are naff. Tho lol
-
Got my retest tomorrow after a duff headlight adjuster, and a dipped beam contact needing replacing. I too think the the new MOT certs are crap. Format is rubbish, font is too small, and they are plain white for all pass/adisory/fail. :undecided:

Not worth the money u pay haaa lol
-
Passed. Shame I may have to break it next month. :lipsrsealed:
-
O no how come?
-
Been offered a 306 for next to nothing, and I was gonna sell in the spring to fund a Corrado VR6 anyway. If I cant get a half decent price for this, then I'm just gonna break it for parts. Will get more by breaking than I would for selling for only the most common bits people want. (mint engine/calipers/coilies/zaust/flywheel etc etc.....
-
O riteyyy 16 or 8v wen u lookin to sell it? Seems a shame
-
8v but the bay is a minter and had tons replaced! Gonna give it a week or so then will probs be up for grabs.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO........dont sell
gti6 i hope..
-
Unfortunately not, its a "cough" 1.4. :embarassed: Like I said though, its gonna be a stop gap for about 3 months until its Corrado time!  And its worth more than what I'm being offered it for in scrap. MOT'd and taxed until June and July respectively too.
