Always been a COD player, but for the first time ever I brought Battlefield last week and have to say it feels far superior to COD
From the graphics, epic maps, sounds and the fact every lobby is not full of 10 years shouting racial abuse down their mics.
I have MW3 pre ordered and will give it a go, but BF3 really has me hooked, be strange going back to playing on tiny maps and not being able to jump in a tank and blow up a building with a camper inside.

COD2 was a great launch title, but much of the same.
COD3 was a step backwards, and in my opinion - terrible.
COD4 was a breath of fresh air.
COD:WAW was great single player wise, but awful multiplayer wise.
COD:MW2 felt rushed, but spec ops was fun. Didn't feel like a new game, just COD4 1.5.
COD:BLACK OPS felt like the most complete package. I mean what more can they add?
So i'm really not sure what to expect with MW3.

Couple of things they have changed are bad points imo. Like taking away the emblem creator. I loved that on Black Ops, being able to design your own emblem, now we are going back to the silly icons from MW2..step back I think.
Another one is on the scoreboard..in Black Ops, while playing objective games like Capture the Flag and Domination, it would say how many flags you captured/defended ect..so people knew how well you played the objective. But of course, IW have taken that away and left it just showing kills and deaths..so once again people will care just about the kill death ratio.
That is another thing BF3 has over MW. Playing conquest last night, I had 5 kills and 12 deaths but had over 3000 points and finished 2nd, as I went for the objectives and was rewarded so.

As above. I properly sucked last night on some conquest maps if you were to just look at my K/D ratio. However, being a medic allowed me to rack up over 4k points as I was dropping aid bags and putting my defibrilator pads to good use (even tried to zap and enemy to death, although it appeared to have no effect... I could have missed though) and so the XP gained was a good reward for this.
I think that BF3 is much more teamwork based, you just cannot go and run and gun and be a lone ranger like MW3 seems to promote. If you play with that mind set then it becomes much more enjoyable to play.
On a side note I took my sniping long range shot to a new level last night with a HS @ 350m. Woot.

I was a die hard cod fan but since BF3 and the fact spec ops was nothing special in my book i can't be botherd with this one.

To be fair BF3 is great, but having been a long time BF player I find BF3 to be somewhat boring, and I'm not the only one to have said that...
BF2142 was amazing. Those were the days :cool:

Just so your aware as you all saying how team based BF3 the kill streak rewards are now gone and you get "points" rewards now so you can obtain you streak perks but not even killing anyone and just capturing points in domination for example. They did this to try and reduce the whole one man army style gameplay.

Seen all of that and it is very good they have done that. As they need to start rewarding players who play that way.
Just seen the deathstreaks ( why do they keep putting these in?)
Death Streaks
4 Deaths - Juiced - Faster sprinting for a short period when respawned
5 Deaths - Revenge - Reveals the position of the enemy who killed you at all times
4 Deaths - Final Stand (Lv. 32) Allows the player to crawl around and use their primary weapon when downed.
4 Deaths - Martyrdom (Lv. 51) Gives the player the ability to drop a frag grenade upon death.
5 Deaths - Deadman's Hand (Lv. 57) Suicide bomber, run around with C4 in your hand.
5 Deaths - Hollow Points (Lv. 71) Stopping Power
Great , Martyrdom returns and can see that Deadman's Hand being a pain

Graphics for 1 IMO Battlefields Scenery And Attention to Detail was amazing But then MW3 is very good also... as i said the graphics on MW3 are basically Black ops.... The detail in game with how the soldier gets up and down Battlefield feels more realistic.... But the story in MW3 feels a lot better so far Battlefields story is not very good and the ending is crap thats my Opinion though

Have to admit, MW has always had great storylines, only halfway through the story in BF3 and have nothing pulling me back to finish it off, rather stick with the multi player.
Shame the graphics have not changed much at all on MW3. I know graphics will always play second to gameplay , but after seeing what BF3 has done with the graphics on the same console, is kinda disappointing that after 2 years there is no real step forward graphics wise.
As I said in my other post, will still get it, as both very different games, both offering something different to the FPS genre.

this is what i feared. Im not a huge mw player as I am still finishing off mw2 + still have the special ops to do :lipsrsealed:
I dont play online as I am not very good :undecided:
The trailer looked good, but i fancy something like driver sf or GTA 5 next instead :cool:

The thing I found with MW2 was that it just wasn't very hard.
Even on hardened or veteran or whatever the top level was I could storm through levels without too much problem. The last level in particular, pick up a riot shield and you were unstoppable.
On BF3, first (proper level - not the train) level I think I died about 11-12 times in a row in quick succession. BF3 just feels more like a challenge, and I don't get nearly as rage filled when playing it.

I liked it too. However, I stopped because of:
Cheaters, hackers, modders, glitchers and general f*cktards.
Remember the mod where if you got shot by someone who was the host of the modded server your rank got reset to like -10000000

I did like the game and put many hours in to it, but like Vdub says above, was a lot of hackers, boosters, glitches ect in the game.
Plus IW were very very lazy in patching the game to fix issues. Look at the rock glitch on fuel. Everyone knew you could hide in the rock but took IW well over 6 months to even patch that.
Then of course you had commando! Being able to knife someone when standing about 4 miles away from them!

MW2 was good but after playing Blops, I found MW2 was crap in terms of graphics and gameplay. Plus there's lots of hackers still around on there! Biggest issues I have are lag, low signal strengths and recurrent host migration.

You see, this is the reason Im going off BF3 already and have been losing the will to play a lot of shooters as much as I used to. If you go back to COD and COD 2, the games were pretty well balanced, no heavy focus on graphics, no stupidly hectic gameplay and the game lasted and made you go back for more (I still play COD2 occasionally as it was just that good). Now that the games are so heavily graphics focussed though, if you turn the difficulty down, you can get through in much less than half of the time it would take to get through COD on easy for example but you dont get through so fast on the harder modes just because they are stupidly hard at certain points and it takes you at least 5 deaths to find that single route that will let you avoid the magnetic bullets (even on normal difficulty I have yet to find a recent game that lasts more than 7hrs of gameplay). As for the storylines, is it me or are they not all the same anyway (I certainly think BF3 has nabbed all of its cues from MW MW2 and Blops in the way the story is told)? They dont add to the game in the same way as say Assasins creeds story does, they just fill in the loading screens.
I might sound like Im whinging and not very good at these games but I dont think Im that bad a player, I certainly used to put enough hours in online on SOF2, CS, COD, COD2, MW, BF2 etc and can still surprise my mates on console on the rare occasions that I give in and use one of those hatefull controllers as well as on the rare occasions I play online on PC (on MW2 I could consistently stay in the top 10% regardless of the map and quality of opposition). The games certainly look amazing now (on PC anyway) but I just think they have lost something in that quest for detailed graphics and would rather confuse you than actually give you gameplay and longevity.

Watched a Elite trailer today and the guy from Sledgehammer actually said " The community really wanted COD to work with facebook " Not that I know off!!.
Although to be fair, the online experience for me has been very good across the COD games, apart from the glitches ect, the actual connection has been pretty much spot on

One thing that really bugs me about COD is Activision. Hate them as a company, not only for charging criminal amounts of money for map packs.
But year after year telling game shops not to send the game out to customers the day before release, this year being Monday.
All other games I have sent 2 days before the release date, thus giving Royal Mail time to get it here on time. Guessing quite a lot of people will not get it on launch day due to this reason.
The more I see of it anyway , the more I am inclined to send it back before opening it. Quite a few COD Youtube commentators seem disappointed with it, one has even gone back to Black Ops, which is not a good sign

Took me quite a while too to get used to it, countless hours of Unreal Tournament (PC) and i thought id never be able to use a control pad.. It does come though. Need a 360 mouse & keyboard :grin:

Hoped this with BLOPS, but they completely changed everything and i wasnt a fan.
MW2 with slightly better graphics and a whole bunch of new maps will satisfy me.
NOT liking the idea of 'revenge', especially where im a silencer, cold blooded, ninja using stealth person lol

I really enjoy BLOPS over and above MW2. Can still run'n'gun but much more measured.

Bit pissed off that I preordered back in June. This was back before they had announced a Hardened Edition, and I have now found out that I will have to settle for the standard one! Nowhere online has them for sale!

Got it, played it, not any different to black ops. Should've spent the money on BF3 to be honest.
But alas, it is fun to place, maps are good, and that Osprey Gunner is a beast!

Not rushing for this, I don't have much spare time to put in on the multiplayer and I get sick of being killed every few seconds cos I'm not as good as someone that has no life outside of their Xbox.
I enjoyed MW2 however I felt the story mode was too easy. I went back to WAW and Modern Warfare as I hadn't completed them yet. Might get Battlefield 3 to see what the fuss about though

Had a few hours on it now and my main complaint is every map just feels small.
I play mainly FFA and it seems every 10 seconds I am either killing someone or being killed and like another poster said, some many bloody things to jump over or people hiding in one of the 100 corners.
I am enjoying playing Kill Confirmed, but what is it with IW? You have objective games like Kill Confirmed and Capture the Flag, but nothing on the scoreboard to say how many dog tags you got in kill confirmed or how many capture/defends in the game..Black Ops did..kinda putting me off playing those types.
As I am running around collecting the dog tags, to get the win..so end up with more deaths then kills, but nothing for to show for it at the end on the scoreboard.

+1. I felt the same. Kept getting lost in the maps. So many different ways to get to the same places. Plus my grenade launcher is absolute pants!

One of the biggest complaints so far. You can play capture the flag etc but the only thing the score reflects is kills and deaths, so there's no point in the objectives.
Complete feck up IMO. Even BLOPS was better than this!

Yep, everyone I know, loved the fact in BLops you had capture/defends on the scoreboard..why the hell would you take it off?
Robert Bowling..god I hate him..has said on his twitter today..he has had lots of feedback about this and will look in to it?!! Look in to it? Would be such a EASY fix to do..one tiny little patch and it would be done.
Also, like MW2, the sky just seems full of either UAV's or air support shooting you.
I do like it, but can just see it going the same way as MW2, where killstreaks just get most of the kills for the player.

Hardcore kill confirmed suits my playing style; running round with an SMG!
Hardcore TDM has too many campers.
I am getting used to the mazes that are the maps, I prefer the smaller maps though.
I still think this is 100X better than blops, never got on with that although I hate Treyarch's Call of Duties.

maps look good and the game is a lot smoother, but i think the mw2 maps were better developed, theres a few points on mw3 where i should be able to jump over but cant, gets annoying when your tryin to get away and it blocks you.
other than that i quite enjoy it, gettin used to the weapons, thank god quick scoping has gone and the grenades arent as powerful, but my weapon of choice for mw2 (scar) isnt as good on mw3, makes you use more guns.
also knifing isnt as bad as on mw2, no lunge.
elite seems like a big waste of money tho

I hate that. Group of enemy ahead of you. Fire a noob tube and it does bugger all. Meanwhile they riddle you with bullets. Got rid of it soon after getting a custom class.

I'm not sure if it my internet connection or me whinning :grin: But I am sure other peoples weapons are over powered and I'm firing air rifle pellets and others just aren't dying.
As for the maps, they are very mazey and small. Being killed every other second as I'm re spawning into a random grenade or being shot.
I like the idea that you don't need to say kill 12 people to get Adv UAV, it's more points, like in domination I captured a flag and then got a point towards my UAV...or am I wrong :undecided:
Only played it about an hour or 2 but I think I will have to learn how to play this as it is totally different strategy to the other CODs.

I've not played MW3, but if black ops is anything to go by which seems to be the case, then it'll be spray and pray. BF3 is much more realistic, there's more planning involved and teamwork pays off really well.

I loved world at war, and I though MW2 was pretty good, although a bit too easy to kill/die. Played black ops for 5 minutes and gave up, way too many kids spraying around and complaining on the mic.

I really despise IW.
MW1&2 maps have been discovered in the game files of the PC release. No doubt these will be across all platforms. So not only are they YET again going to release old maps for MW 3, which is already just one big map pack but 3 maps found today in MW3 are Strike, Overgrown and Crash!!!
Those 3 were released for MW2. So looks like these 3 maps will feature for a 3rd time in a MW game
Don't get me wrong, I liked those maps, but after playing them in MW1 and 2 , do we really need them again? I feel sorry for people who paid a lot more for Elite, as not only does it never work, seems you be getting old maps for DLC

The maps will be free for Elite users yes...but Elite is not free.
If I had paid up to £30 extra like some people have for Elite I would be pretty pissed off to see them releasing the same maps for the 3rd time.

First impressions online. . .
Its a bigger pile of wank than MW2 :lipsrsealed: Graphics are no better than BLOPS for what is meant to be the biggest and best online game of the year they could have made an effort. The guns seem unrealised and the movement of the character is crap.
Single player is good and once complete the game will be going

I spotted that last night. Have to say on first impressions I'm not overly impressed. Don't think the graphics are any better than mw2 and the game play lags alot. Don't think I will prestige up on this one.
On a positive note it only cost me 25quid which is always a bonus.

I quite like it (PC, single player mainly).
The graphics match BF3, it didnt have anywhere near as many silly, press this button now, now this one etc moments, the guns feel better and your aim doesnt wobble all over the place, it doesnt have as many stupidly hard sections as on BF3, the spec ops bit is bloody good (and hard!) and the online spec ops is even better. Add in the fact that its missing the whole stupid story thing that Blops went with and BF3 copied and I really like it.
Havent tried it in the normal online modes yet but I CBA with that sort of thing anymore, F1 and Forza are more my kind of online play nowadays. Saying that, I never really got BF's massive map online play, it always bored me senseless, I much prefer to pick a game up and blow away an hour or so and BF never really suited that approach to gaming.
The only problem with it is that there is no leaning anymore (thanks Xbox/PS3) which I miss sooooooo much.

Given it's the same game engine as MW2 and Blops, the grapics are going to be the same.
I still hate it but am getting used to kill KDR is at least 1, with a min of 10 kills. Recently got something like 23 kills to 5 deaths, compared to the other way round when I started playing.

The graphics are the nuts. On survival at the underground shoot the portaloo and you can see the bullet hole in the fibreglass. Well I was impressed anyway simple minds and all that lol

Now there is also glitch spots on Mission , Downturn, Village, Dome, that German shopping centre and Resistance
I have sent emails to IW with files attached of people glitching on the maps while I have been playing..nothing back. I am also on a gaming forum where 100s of others have been in contact with IW to get these patched..nothing back again. Great support

I'm starting to hate MW3. When it works, it's awesome but that's very far and few between. Issues with host migration/finding matches, crap hit detection, stupendous amounts of lag.
How the fudge can I spot a guy running straight at me, shoot two clips into him and then he gets his sniper rifle and headshots me!>!?!?!?! Seriously WTF?!?!

Just because it sold more than MW3 does it mean it is better...no? Is like saying Titanic is a better film than say Pulp Fiction as it made more at the cinema. So don't know where your trying to go with that, but if you want to go that route , then fine.
This game has made nearly $1 billion in a week and over $6 billion since the Modern Warfare franchise started. So with a company which has made a hell of a profit , I would expect them not to release a game full of glitches and still as of today not been patched.
There is no excuse as they are using the same hotfix system Blops used to get glitches fixed quick or not so quick when it comes to IW. In nearly a year of playing Blops not ONCE did I come across anyone under the map, on top of buildings or hiding inside trucks. Where as on this I have come across many players glitching.
Then look at the leaderboard, there are over 30 players in the top 100 in the world who have played under 20 games with a average score per game of over 1 million points..yeah that makes sense.
As Stealthwolf says, the lag, hit detection , host migration and stupid lag are also problems with this game.
All these problems ALWAYS happen when IW make COD games. They are f**king lazy when it comes to fixing it to.
Look how stupid IW are too. They have introduced point streaks as they want this year's COD to reward team players...ummm really..is that why you have taken off the scoreboard, how many plants/defuses , flag captures/defends players get in team games..while they were there in Blops? I mean seriously, how stupid are they.
Lets look what else IW have done so well this game...putting back in dickscoping, making the sniper rifle the only gun in the game which can kill in one shot at either long, medium or short range...took away the great emblem making tool to replace it with tons of the same icons from MW2 not forgetting nearly all the same challenges from MW2 as well.
I play hardcore modes a lot..in Blops if you teamkilled 3 times you was booted, great addition...NOOOOO say's IW, will like the idea of you being able to kill your whole team each round and not be booted. See..why would anyone think that is a good idea?
Then theatre mode, was brilliant in Blops. But as my post shows, IW does not like it when Treyarch comes up with good ideas, they have to make it sh!t. So gone is the ability to watch any player in 1st person mode...nope..only person you can watch in 1st person mode is yourself..gone is the ability to look at the scoreboard at any point when in theatre mode..you now have to wait to the end..great..no dolly cams as well.
Don't get me started on the maps too. Why have big team games like TDM, Domination , Kill Confirmed and Ground War but the majority of maps are small...of and not forgetting the amazing spawns on the game.

I don't feel there are any maps that give a sniper an advantage. As in all the maps are tiny, no open spaces, loads of crap all over the place that you can't even climb. I am unhappy with the lack of sniping I am able to do (proper sniping).

the replays dont use real time so 'maybe' he didnt hit dead on, but at that close range it should have been a one shot kill regardless

That honestly drives me round the bend. All of our team are in one half of the map but the enemy spawn right behind you. WTF?!?!?
I loved Black Ops from the start. It felt more measured in pace and I didn't feel like I was being done by snipers and noobtubers. The only bugbear I had with it was host migration.
MW3 has brought all the crap with it from MW2 with none of the positives from BLOPS.

I played it on DSi and its good but the quick scope looking down is a bit sprity due to poor graphics on the DSI not sure what its like for the 3DS.

Wired to router. ADSL. NAT is open - if it does change to moderate/strict, sticking in the MW2 disc usually works to change it to open.
To be fair, it doesn't happen all of the time. But very frustrating when it does!

i agree with the earlier post about the map quality for sniping. i 'proper snipe' (moving from location to location and no quick/no scopes) and there's just nowhere decent enough on any of the maps that will give you a sniper's advantage. they're so full of buildings and clutter that it's pointless trying (but i do have gold camo for my AS50 :grin: )

Yeah we switched to hardcore within a few days of getting MW3. Problem is that it's full of campers whereas normal TDM requires entire clips to kill someone and even then that may not be enough.

Happened to me too, seems to happen a lot on sabotage. Dont know wether its a hack or just controlling the spawn points.

It does seem to have changed a bit recently regarding spawns. Its just too easy to be killed, or sometimes kill a spawning enemy. Its been the same in all call of duties!

We've all had the odd respawn at the same point with an enemy. I think it's better than MW2. Remember how bad that was...esp with a chogo ons scrap yard!

Are you f**king serious. I hate f**king quick scoping thingys that get you from the other side of the map without even looking through the scope. Makes me sick :sick: I hate em. Ruins the game. I understand that it is probably a skill/art however it is no fun if you are on the other end of it, no other weapon can kill with one shot. It is a joke that IW should have sorted.
