Ok well I am new to the VW scene, expecialy the turbo side of things. My previous car was a ITB'd Mk5 Fiesta Zetec-S which I had for 3 years and was a lot of fun. I have now moved on to hopefully bigger things. I am picking up a Mk4 1.8T Golf tomorrow. Obviously I want to start modding straight away and aim for some more power, I have a few questions firstly.
If I get a map, will I need anything uprate i.e exhaust/filter/inter cooler fitted before the map?
I am going to be going to AMD in Essex for the map, anyone used these or somewhere else they can recommend? They state that they can get a 32bhp increase, does the sound right?
I am looking at getting an exhaust/intercooler and a DV.
Which brand exhaust or intercooler should I aim for?
I have been looking at the DV 007P, done some research and this sounds like the one which is used the most.
All help greatly appreciated, thanks, Craig :)

AMD are reputable, I'm sure they will see you right.. but to be honest, any of the tuners on this forum can work with that engine - it's bread and butter for us.

Cheers for the reply, any info on exhuast etc or see what they say?
Or what website good to buy from?

A forge 007p with a yellow spring is needed before the remap as the standard d/v won't handle the increased boost. As Irmscher mentioned AMD have a good reputation and their claim of an extra 32bhp sounds realistic depending upon your engine?
What year is your car? Earlier 1.8T's were fitted with a KO3 turbo which will remap to around 195bhp & 225lb/ft whereas the later engines had the bigger KO3s which will map to around 205bhp & 240lb/ft.
In terms of exhaust, blueflame & milltek have very good reputations but there are many other good brands. The downpipe & cat are pretty restrictive on the 1.8T so a 3" downpipe & either decat or sports cat are recommended if your going for big power.
For the intercooler, Forge or THS

Its a "Y" reg so that's 2001 right?
Where is the best place to order my Forge 007p from and the spring? Do I need to get an uprated filter or anything or is standard air box ok with maybe a panel filter?
I will keep my eye out for exhaust, where is best to order from brand new?
Thanks

Yours will be an AGU with a ko3, so expect to see roughly a 40bhp gain.
I got my 007p from Awesome Gti, you specify the spring when you order. Standard airbox smoothed inside with a performance filter is your best bet, I'm running a pipercross in mine & have no complaints. That said bmc induction kits are popular
Not sure about the exhaust, AMD will definitely stock Milltek otherwise look at venom motorsports
