I bought a 1990 gti last week which has a slight vibration through the steering wheel which is noticable at all speeds but doesn't seem to get any worse as you go faster.
I've just had new tyres, discs and pads fitted but its still there.
What should I look at next?
-
if you can lift the front end check the wheels for play from lleft to right you might have some play in the steering rackor your lower control arm ball joints
-
Before doing anything , swap the wheels front to back, it could just be balanced wrong. Also check the discs aren't warped.
-
Thanks chaps I'll give it a whirl and let you know how I get on.
-
Sorted now. one front wheel was out of balance and the tracking was out.
I got it sorted by the excellent chaps at Protyres (Exeter branch) who I would highly recommend for a thorough steering/tracking sort out and very reasonable prices.

1. Always look at the basics first
2. Always listen to me

Yeah always check the basics before getting to involved in other stuff.

Is the novelty of the washing machine wearing a bit thin?
