Is this true from next year , if your mk5 is mapped will fail an mot ?

How are they going to tell? Some ECUs you cant even read the data on them!

http://www.the-ace.org.uk/stricter-mot-test-from-2012.html
covers all cars not just mk5s

I think they have had a change of plan and leaving it as is for the moment regards ecu / software.
-
Knowing the do goody, touchy feely, tree huggy, politically correct dimwits in the government, they will eventually go down this route and when they do I'm going to buy a second ecu, job done.
There is always a way around it, although how we would be able to legally insure our cars is another matter entirely!
-
Naaaah I wouldn't worry. Can't see this happening. Just another thing for politicians as tree huggers to talk about so they can justify their existence.

I was speaking to the mot tester yesterday and he said it would be a complete minefield to enforce if they did bring it in.

I love my Bluefin .
They have no chance of knowing with zero on its flash counter

There is already a huge thread on the forum about this.
IMHO nothing to worry about with the software side of things. Take the newer anti tune ecus, how is an mot tester going to read the map from the car?? how can they tell its mapped?
The only thing already in place which they could use is the eobd rediness pass/fail check for emission control. But a good map wont make a check fail to happen. Stage2 maps could end up with check fails, but this could be coded out in map with a little extra effort.

Hows about a Software update like the GTR, it knows when it's on a race track via the GPS, how about some software that returns the ecu to stock performance levels when near an MOT test station. :-)
God I'm a genius!

I have a revo map installed. Surely prior to an MOT it would just be a case of switching back to stock via the revo sps switch - problem solved.

I think they were referring to obviously chipped or piggybacked ecus which would be mid 1990s cars
