What's the most important feature(s) out of the following, will give us a better idea as to what to go for (little point me recommending a top spec Lenovo with 3yr NBD warranty - when they look like a 10 yr old POS).

Gaming / Battery life / Performance / Screen size / Portability / Appearance / Connectivity

You can't go wrong with a Dell - that's where I'd start looking.

Would prefer an i5 chip , not bothered about gaming 15" screen!

This is a good place to start:

As is PC world, find a laptop you like, then google the name of it and you'll get a load of results with different prices

I wouldn't spend the whole 500 on the laptop itself though, make sure you've got enough change left over for an extended warranty.

Called up ebuyer over a year ago, and they said HP pavillion DV6 was the best for £500.

so that's what i got.

Looks alright that does , I like HP's 6gb ram in that not bad, also i5 chip !!

Bought about 30 of these at work in the summer to give to teachers (who aren't known for looking after equipment) and it has proved to be very reliable and hard wearing.. And the previous batch of Acers bought in 2009 are still going strong with no problems too.

Highly recommend it, especially as in our household we also have 3 Acer laptops and a All in one Desktop from them and haven't had a single problem..
