Title: Im baffled, any ideas?
Post by: loonie midget on 01 May 2005, 12:25
Hi all.
Ive got a mkIII golf, 1.9 dielsel.  Ive only had this car a few weeks, but the problem im having is when i put a full lock on the steering either way, i hear a sqweeling.. similar sound to when the fan belt is on its way out.  Any ideas what this could be?  I know the drivers side spring has snapped off about 5 inches which will be sorted soon, but im wondering if the noise has anything to do with that?

I wouldn't buy parts from Halfords, they are often more expensive than the main dealer, and are of crap quality

I'm glad I've just read this thread.

The squealing noise that you described when steering is exactly what I keep hearing on my wife's car (Vauxhall Corsa  :embarrassed:). Completely different car I know, but what I'm hearing is almost identical to what you describe.

Thanks loonie midget, you may have just helped me find the source of an annoying fault on a completely different car!
