Title: Im baffled, any ideas?

Ive got a mkIII golf, 1.9 dielsel. Ive only had this car a few weeks, but the problem im having is when i put a full lock on the steering either way, i hear a sqweeling.. similar sound to when the fan belt is on its way out. Any ideas what this could be? I know the drivers side spring has snapped off about 5 inches which will be sorted soon, but im wondering if the noise has anything to do with that?

Oh god! lol. Your talking to a totally inexperienced new driver here, sure i'll find someone to do it for me... ty, if i can save money i will. :smiley:

Post by: davero on 01 May 2005, 14:15: new belt is about six quid from halfords, fitting is 5 minute job for a mechanically minded person. i changed mine on tuesday last week :smiley:

Thanx Dave, would never have thought about halfords, just rang them and theyve got one in, at Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£1.49! lol. Bloody bargain! :grin:

I got the one from Halfords yesterday for Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£1.49.. its fitted and works a treat! Yeah baby!! :grin: Only took the other half 5 mins to fit too! :smiley:

The squealing noise that you described when steering is exactly what I keep hearing on my wife's car (Vauxhall Corsa Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â :embarrassed:). Completely different car I know, but what I'm hearing is almost identical to what you describe. :wink:
