Title: carbon fibre
Post by: bigkev750 on 19 September 2003, 22:48
hi guys i am busy building a carbon fibre bonnet and front wings for my mk2 GTI.but before i relly get stuck into the mould making process i would like to know if there is any other interested people in carbon parts.i am not a big buck buisness but just a guy working from home i have been building bike parts for a couple of years but have recently made porsche 911 front wings/bonnet and rear spoiler and was really surprised at the weight saving(15 kilos off one door alone)
so i would like to pass on the knowledge to other VW owners.i have checked the price of other carbon items and frankly they are a bit on the steep side so i would appreciate some feedback if you guys have got the time
much appreciated kev ;)

Hi there,

What kind of parts for bikes do you make?

I've got an 03 Yam R1.

Cheers.

i have made mainly huggers and front mudguards and frame protectors (and a pair of crutches for my buddies mum.dont ask)i have recently moved from south africa back  to the U.K. so i am starting to get moulds from scratch if you can supply the original part then i can build a mould from that and will obviously charge a lot less for the carbon part (the original is not damaged in any way so dont worry about that)i built a lot of 02 R1 huggers for a shop that looked fantastic.i use 200 gramme twill weave that looks a lot better than the stuff i have seen around in shops you can also add stickers on it and clear lacquer them which looks brilliant

how about interior bits such as door pulls, mirror adjusters and what not? I may be interested in these down the road a bit.
