Hi everyone, i am hoping you can help me.
I have just bought a 2000 Golf GTI Turbo and it’s started playing up, firstly it started dropping revs while approaching traffic lights and when coming to a stop and then cutting out. Now it is also sounding very rough and what i think maybe a misfire, and to top it off the temp gauge is showing it isn't getting up to the correct temp even after a 25mile run.
PLEASE help me.

Is it a agu? Try cleaning the inlet manifold out,
Temp - is a temp ( something) about £30 easy fix

Check your coil packs, one might have gone down? £30+ the nasty from VW.
Temp sender unit has probably gone down also, easy fix £9 + vat ish from VW. I was suprised how much difference just changing this sensor had on the cars drivability.
Cheap code readers are everywhere, cheese bay start from £15 / 20 I think.

mine had a problem simular, revs drop really low, miss fires, sounded like a diesel tranny van, like others said check your coil packs, i also did oil change and that got rid of the rough sound, but the miss fire randomly went after a day or so

Temp gauge could be a sender problem however you might also have a water pump or thermostat issue.

Ive just had exactly the same problem mate on my 1999 1.8T ive found that the previous owner fitted a K&N filter and left the ICM unit/Ignition Amp to just float around in the engine bay.
Long story short if its not attached to some thing cooling with the heat conductive paste on the back has a good chance of getting too hot. I sorced a second hand one from ebay for £20 all in, but prices can get pretty high for a new one.

iratic idle and cutting out at traffic lights 1st point of call clean throttle body out, theres a how to guide on here or i paid £10 for garage to do it mine run perfect after wards, no need to go changing parts if there not needed,
the temp sensor is another common fault i changed mine for a non bosh one paid £9 and it didnt fix the problem went to vw and paid £12 ish worked prefectly, could be more too it but go for easiest and the most common 1st,
one thing i learned about golfs is you very rarely get a problem that 1000 other people havnt already had lol

ignition amp! mine happend sunday :laugh: running soo rough and sounded like a subaru!

well it went sat after noon, just before a 200 mile trip! :undecided: filled it to the brim with V-Power aswell.. :\ glad i had a spare!!

Im still waiting for a new one to be delivered. Mine dont sound too bad is running pretty badly.

I think its that time of month all are ignition amps pack up. :grin: Iv just replaced mine as it was running bad/ sounded like misfire. :rolleyes: £70 +vat :sick:
