Title: 288mm rear discs?

Been to local scrappy today and they said that you can mount the standard gti 288mm front calipers on the rear with the 288mm disc ? Obviously spacers will be required. Anyone geard of this ?

even if you can mackle it to fit... what about the handbrake?

i know this wouldn`t be road or MOT legal, but could always go hydraulic  :evil:

You would need to keep the calipers, handbrake has to be mech set up.

for it to be road legal of course!
surely there is another way to get bigger rear brakes that use std front calipers, there must be something that fits or can be made to fit, other than the usual everyday mods?.

More to the point why do you need bigger rear brakes when the braking bias is towards the front?

If it was that much of an issue manufacturers would be fitting every car with discs all round, but there are plenty of cars still being made with drums on the rear.

Valid point, only worth doing if you are going big on the front so you can get the balance right. The std brakes would be fine for road use but i think depending on you mods ect they would probably need an upgrade if you want to hammer it.
