It is probably your screen that's the problem

give it a good clean with some dedicated window cleaner

If you're buying new blades then I'd either go for VW or Bosch (who I think supply VW OEM anyway!)

Nout wrong with OEM replacements imo, i'd start by giving both a damn good clean though as they're not cheap from the dealers...

Just replaced the front blades on my 2010 Mk6 - Bosh Areo somethings they were called. Cost a good about £30 something pounds but had them before on my previous MK5 GTI and were very very good. I was lazey and went to Halfords (yes I know I prob got ripped off but couldn't be bothered waiting for them to be posted etc etc).

Also in the past had a set from dealers which cost something like £70 for the front and rear blades.

I'm sure Costco are doing the aero ones for £6 or at least were. Also Tesco had aero type ones for £5. I used these for the wife and daughters car and for the price was delighted.

I understand the originals are graphite coated to reduce  noise.... might make all the difference? Dunno if aftermarket ones are similarly coated tho?

I doubt they will be when they are that cheap.

halford own make and bosch etc have graphite on. its just a lubricant for the first few times they get used.

my wipers are hopeless. car is about 6 weeks old now and the skip and jump all over. the passenger side one moves around loads when I'm driving too. seems whatever mechanism or linkage they run off has loads of play in it?

I've tried muc-off glass cleaner and rain0x cleaner and replant and it doesn't make any difference really.

also the auto wiper function is a joke. even in the slowest setting they're far to sensitive. if if misty and not really raining they just go mental. can't tell the difference between rain and fog/mist.

and why in manual mode does the intermittent wipe do what it wants and not have a set timer? crap design IMO

Ken, I agree they're a bit on the sensitive side, but my GTd wipers are rock solid with no squeal or judder and a major improvement over my old Bora whose rain sense wipers hardly worked at all, it would pi$$ down and perhaps I'd get one sweep of the screen! But just before I sold it on I had to have another new screen installed and the wipers worked much better!?? Weird.
Personally, if the car is only six weeks old, I'd speak to my dealer if they skip and jump and seem to be loose in any way, it *may* be a safety issue?

<EDIT> BTW, I use Autoglym's glass cleaner, no problems with it.

Thats not right for a new car. Mine are whisper quiet and I'm dreading having to change them.

The only time I've ever had problems with juddering blades is when I put Rain X on the windscreen of an old car. What a nightmare that was. Thats the devils work if you ask me  Only way I could get rid of it completely was by using steel wool.

There is no manual intermittent mode. The switch positions are;

FLICK WIPE (press the lever down)
OFF
AUTO with adjustable sensitivity via the switch on the top of the stalk.
ON 1
ON 2

does any of your passenger side wipers move around when its in its don position? you can visibly see mine bounce around when the wipers arent being used

yeah the title switch on top of the stalk is the intermit ant speed/sensitivity but even on its lowest setting its too fast/sensitive. i would prefer if it was a time delay rather than work of the PIR on the windscreen.

Yeah it twitches from time to time but that is a design feature so it doesn't rest on the same side twice to help alleviate any twisting.

It should only do it when parking / switching the car off but I've noticed mine doing it shortly after I've put the switch to off.

Need front blades myself now, would the Bosch aero's be any better than VW's ?

I'm going to put a set of these on the wifes car when the spring comes and if they are any good, put them on the Golf later in the year. I've heard really good reports about them:
