Title: engine noise help

Hi

I have a 1993 Golf MK3 8v GTi which when i am accelerating makes a strange rasping noise, but when i am just driving along with out accelerating it sounds normal
does anyone know what could be causing this???

could be a leaking exhaust

THIS ^^ Or if its a metalic rasp ;heat shield that encases the down pipe,put a large jubilee clip round the bottom of the heat shield and do it up tight.
