I had the pleasure of meeting him many years ago, he was doing a sponsored walk from Fort William to somewhere else, I cant remember where... but it was a ridiculous distance! He was very sincere, and very genuine, and a limitless energy for a good cause, year in, year out...
A couple of friends (Bikers) have spent time in Stoke Mandeville, as part of recovery treatment in the specialised spinal injuries unit, care couldn't have been any better, this Hospital was put on the map 30+ years ago by Jimmy, and still he continued his support...
People like Jimmy Savile are very rare, and I have the utmost respect for him
Rumors are just that, if they cant be backed up by facts, don't bother!

I met him in roundhay park after drinking cider from a 2ltr bottle when I was about 16 (you know you have all done it), even then when I must have been a pretty annoying tw4t he was still a nice genuine guy!

Raised over £40m for charity... RIP Jimmy

In all honesty my high school is only a couple of miles from roundhay park where he lived and alot of the kids at the time loved jimmy saville and would see him regularily at the park or local shops. He always had time for anyone that wanted to chat, and was always a gentleman.

Anytime someone is a little not normal whatever that may be, and they are classed as a kiddy fiddler. Just so wrong in my opinion... no one that knew him had a bad word to say about him. £40 raised for charity.... i thikn that says everything you need to know about the man.

Just a very private man and in these media frenzy days he was an enigma, hence nasty unfounded rumours.

Was the first DJ back in the late 40's (1948) so anybody into that kind of thing should thank and praise him!

Will be sorely missed.

A Leeds legend - RIP.

My mum and dad knew him in the 1960s as he was a well known figure in the nightclub circuit in Leeds. Apparently a top bloke according to them. Also did some ace 1970s British Rail ads, the likes of which we will never see again.

He came across a right weirdo in that! I remember the part when Louis left the camera on at night without Jimmy knowing , so Jimmy told Louis a story about him taking boys down to the cellar in a night club he owned and he used to beat them..nice guy

Whilst I think that this sort of case is horrible (and it doesn't really come as a surprise), you've got to remember that there must be a fair few celebrities and production crew that knew this sort of thing went on but did NOTHING to stop it or shop him.

Personally I think its a bit lame to drag his name through the mud when he is not here to defend himself. If so many people knew about this then why did not even one of these people come forward and say something. And as for the bloke on the news last night who was scared of Jimmy Saville......get real and let the bloke R.I.P !!!!!!

nothing to do with the attention seeking and overnight celeb status they are after. who the fcuk is ester anyway... the old hag was probably jealous he wasnt throwing her a fat finger.

if he was or wasnt a kiddy fiddler... thats not really the point here. just very strange how it comes up now, when the man himself is not alive to defend himself. typical of the poor journalism we have in todays society

you could call any person that is slightly different from the norm a kiddy fiddler and i have no doubt to lots of sad fcukers would come out and say 'yes, he touched me too'.

He defended Gary Glitter.
What sort of non-paedophile would do that?
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/9578230/Jimmy-Savile-claimed-paedophile-Gary-Glitter-did-nothing-wrong.html

Also, I think people keeping quiet until now is to do with his level of status. He was so big and one point he seemed untouchable. Also taking into account the sexism in the 70s, any woman coming out and saying something like that (especially teenage girls) in the 70s would have just been shooed away.

So its took them 40 years to speak out and it just happens to be when the bloke is dead. This is the bloke who dedicated most of his life to raising charity money to improve kids lives. As said whether it happened or not (and no one will ever really know) the time to speak out has passed and it was a long bloody time as well.

This is complete and utter sh!te!!!!

Now if it's true or not we will never know. BUT IF it is then there is no time too late to speak out. It doesn't matter who, when or what for fcuk sake. Enabling to heal and move forward takes a load of courage for people that have experienced that to come forward.

If what you are saying is it doesn't need to be publicised then i can undertand that. But if he did what he did, then he sure as fcuk doesn't deserve to be remembered as a saint.

Regarding the women only speaking up now..

Put yourself in their shoes.  Knight of the realm Sir James Saville, Legend of the entertainment world and raiser of millions of pounds for charity accused of having a quick fumble with a 15 year old girl in BBC dressing room.

After the incident. Girl and her mum go to Police...

Headlines in the press etc..

Oh they're after his money...Or.. he's misunderstood coz he's "eccentric" like.

How could it possibly be true?? He raises lots of money for charity and loves kids.. Just look at Jim'll Fix It.  He's just like a funny Uncle...

So little girl and her mum up against the press, the court of public opinion, and no doubt the BBC, its lawyers, Jimmy's lawyers and some very savvy publicists.

No wonder they didn't / couldn't speak up.

Much as it pains me to agree with, he is an innocent man until proven guilty.  However there's a lot of stuff coming out now.....and especially since the Newsnight expose was pulled by the BBC heirachy last year.

I'll wait and see before branding the guy a Paedo.

Agree with that, what i was trying to say is the circumstances then and now are completely different as Jonathan has pointed out. It makes sense why these people would come now, after his death. We may never know, but if it is true i wish all the victims the best in life in moving forward. If not, they should be ashamed of themselves.

People need to remember that the biggest fear is not being believed, back then there was a 99% chance you wouldn't be believed.

I was only trying to annoy people with my comment on him acting and looking like one.

Paul Gambaccini:

"He alleged that at one point Saville was about to be exposed by a tabloid newspaper, but quickly arranged an interview with a rival tabloid which had the effect of stopping the negative article.

Gambaccini went on: “On another occasion, and this cuts to the chase of the whole matter, he was called and he said 'well you could run that story, but if you do there goes the funds that come in to Stoke Mandeville - do you want to be responsible for the drying up of the charity donations'. And they backed down."

And so it begins....

“The BBC has conducted extensive searches of its files to establish whether there is any record of misconduct or allegations of misconduct by Sir Jimmy Savile during his time at the BBC. No such evidence has been found,” it said in a statement.

”We have been very clear from the start that the piece was not broadcast because the story we were pursuing could not be substantiated. To say otherwise is false and very damaging to the BBC and individuals. The notion that internal pressure was applied appears to be a malicious rumour.“

  who to believe

Sorry Wherry but for once I strongly disagree with you. How anyone can say such things about a dead person when they have had 40 years is a disgrace. The victims and there families need to move on.....what about Jimmys family and friends ?? The bloke cannot defend himself against allegations from women with absolutlely no proof. The police questioned Jimmy five years ago and found  no evidence and let him go. If these womem wanted him to pay how come not one of them came forward when the police were investigatong and the guy was around to defend himself.

I for one respect the dead and their reputation whether its good or bad. R.I.P Sir Jimmy.
Title: Re: Jimmy Saville...
Post by: Mitching on 02 October 2012, 20:54
I don't think people understand that with traumatic events such as rape/molestation etc, the victims can suppress the experience or blame themselves, without telling anyone for years and years.
They may not have spoken out due to fear of not being believed, yet when one person speaks out they can see they weren't the only ones to have been victimised, meaning more and more people come forward.
Title: Re: Jimmy Saville...
Post by: Deano2711 on 02 October 2012, 21:14
Whats changed now then except he is dead and cant put his story across. As I said how come not one of these women came forward 5 years ago when the Police had a look at the case. At least then Jimmy was alive to answer the questions put to him. I understand it must be hard for any victim but why would you wait for the guy to die before speaking out and why do they believe people will believe them now ??  I'll tell you its because Jimmy cant defend himself and people like Esther need to learn respect!!!!! If she knew then she should have said something or if as I believe  she knows nowt then she should shut up !!!!!

Victims of crimes such as this often turn to violence, substance abuse, self mutilation and even suicide without anyone else knowing what's happened. Doesn't this tell you something about the trauma involved?

I have avoided this thread (apart from the shady reference) as I know little about the bloke, he is well before my time. What I can say though is that a few of the views expressed arguing his innocence are incredibly narrow minded towards the apparent victims, with the posts reasoning accusations being a hell of alot more rounded.

Child abuse cannot be swept under the carpet, but always is when it comes to the mainstream. As for this coming to light after his death - thats the usual normality, Of course it cannot be proven, its impossible, but neither can it be disproved. Whats important to acknowledge is that it DOES happen in that particular industry. There is some f$@ked up people out there getting away with it today never mind decades ago.

right... i have tried looking for it but I am pretty sure I mentioned it on here before and someone quizzed me about it.. further still I remember mentioning this to Jord when Vile As Jimmy died and Jord remembers that I did.

My mother always despised Vile as Jimmy... didn't like me watching or writing into Jim'll Fit It... when I was in my early teens there was a programme on TV and she said something derogatory about him and I quizzed her as to why she didn't like him..

She said that when she was a younger lass, in her teens, he used to see her on the street on her way to school (i think) regularly and make very lewd and very disgusting comments to her.. She never mentioned being groped or molested by him, he was ten years her senior

Now, I cannot confirm the facts as this conversation was 22+ years ago and the old girl is no longer with us.. but I believed her and never liked him from that day on. Furthermore... if their paths ever cross 'upstairs' (if he ever made it up there but its looking more and more doubtful) then God help him as she would do him some real damage

F*ck Saville, he's gone. He's was a small cog of a huge network within the mainstream media, politics and the legal system that needs exposed. You think Saville spent most of life abusing on the hush. Impossible. All these news stories about him now are merely disrtactions.

Yeah get your point John, but growing up watching him you just would have never known?
Do we really know people from afar, in reality your neighbour could be the kindest bloke down your street, but is he/she a serial killer or kiddy fiddler? :undecided:
