Title: Beeve's MK3! -- NEW RIMS PG7! DISHHHH.
Post by: AdamBeevers on 27 October 2011, 22:05
Hi guys, just sold my old MK2 polo breadvan to allow for a slightly newer and bigger car! (both body and engine)! So much nicer having power assisted steering, a brake servo and the list can go on! Anyway, bought this baby from Brighton (2 hours away) after seeing it on the bay of E, once i saw it and realised how little 1.4 3doors exist anymore i knew i was going to have to act quick, so sent the owner a message explaining i wouldnt have money for another week and would like to view it if he was willing to remove from ebay, explaining i was an enthusiast. He agree'd and everyone lived happy ever after, i got the car, drove back, no problems. Car's got a full service history, stamped at every interval, 80,000 miles on the clock and is a metallic turquois colour, sort of? Body works in good nick minus the passenger door but will get that sorted soon. Had it up on the ramp, all healthy on the underside too bar a slight leak from the gear selector.. no biggy.
12 months MOT too so as persil say, 'thats a load of your mind'. Needs new pads ASAP mind, not much left

so got her back, fitted a new ipod compatible headunit as the old one drove me mad having to drive home for 2 hours listening to rather flat, quiet, fuzzy radio. Also fitted a 8" JL sub (in custom box, fits in rear arch) with a genesis amp, good bits of kit highly recommended, very punchy, none of this boom box shi...

So yeah, for now thats ok on the sound side of things.. future plans for sound will be components (already got them just need motivation to fit, an ampage), do a tidier boot install and retrim it, bluetooth headunit and some rear speakers which arent 6x9's.. previous owner had some in the shelf and then tried making it stealthy by stapeling some LOOSE carpet over them... oh dear..

also went to the scrappy to see what was about, plus a fog blank fell off on the way home, useless things..  and came home with GTI rear lights, GTI spoiler, boot struts (guess what there for!) and think thats it.
Already fitted the lights, weathers been too rubbish to do much annoyingly.

Got some other idea's too, got some VW bottle top alloys which im planning on refurbing in a very unique way but going to take ages so that wont happen anytime soon! Leather interior possibly.. or recaro's not sure yet, fit electric windows, remote central locking.. possibly aim for a euro look? not sure and depends if i plan on keeping the car, if so, engine conversion in the future once money allows.. but like i say, depends how i get on with the car... lots of idea's floating about! Here's a few pictures, sadly no decent ones, but i think once its sunny and i polish the paintwork up she'll look awesome..
enjoy!

Looks tidy  and as you said 1.4 3drs are getting thin on the ground.

Especially as top gear buy them then roll them in the 17yo challenge.

Looks tidy though. Better than my first 1.4 anyway

Just need a heat gun it, not my main worry at the moment

Few updates, new passenger door sourced and a good enough quote for me to be bothered to get it sprayed at a body shop, new grill, GTI door cards so now got OEM placed speakers, new gear gaiter, brake pads fitted, door wiring looms plus electric window bits sourced... Happy days :)

cheers :D ran out of money this month but going to try finish spraying the others up then already got tyres with the wheels (195/45/15) but ones a bit buggered so think im going to go 195/50/15 as there easier/cheaper to source (work in a garage).. then once pay day arrives, spraying the door up (really need to strip it down and get it ready.. bahhh) then jetex coilovers, 5 years warranty for £400, happy days! The fun bit will be getting them on but will be on the ramp at work with air tools so fingers crossed all goes to plan, will then do tracking too. Insides still hanging, need a tidy up and finish off this weekend as i got a loose glove box, loose lower shelf below that, one gti rear door card fitted n wired up so need to finish a few bits and bobs and clean it, if i can be bothered i'll clean the engine bay too.. just split up with the missus which means = more time for cars!

I NEED MOTIVATION.

This weeks been horrific so need to do something to keep me busy so plans are for this weekend:
spray last 3 wheels
fit other rear GTI doorcard
fit new front speakers
possibly start/finish cutting the boot build.. so i can get everything mounted proper then empty my boot of the rubbish which ive used to wedge the sub/amp in place...
fit some cheapy/free/rubbish air filter

thats about it i think.. im sure il come up with more..

Title: Re: Beevers got a new car! MK3 3door!
Post by: AdamBeevers on 23 November 2011, 18:00
that matey you can see in the pic on the laptop owns the breadvan, i convinced him to buy that and its and on going project show car.. but thats another story! Do miss the classic polo :( But yesss, more updates, new tyres fitted to the front, decided to go 195/50/15 just to have that little bit more rubber... rears are still 45's until they wear out for now.. fitted wheels on too, looks really nice actually, suits the car well... and although the cars not lowered the car itself does look nicer weirdly.. even with the massive gap between the tyres and arch.. but cars sitting lower due to the low profiles.. but anyway.. lowering next month! Anyone know the size of the grommet required for the wiper blank on the rear?
taaaa

Then some shiny bits arrived:
Got stuck on the ramp and had no time left at work to raise it so drove 20 miles like this..

It's now been raised, to max height on the rear which is still far too low haha, nevermind!

passenger doors going to get sorted soon, sadly my mate crashed his car who was gunna do it for me so he's busy repairing his but once its done il get my donor door over to him.. not really sure whats next been looking at the idea's of smoothing the boot, and colour coding a few bits...

I hate this time of year. How big are the speedbumps down your road?
Title: Re: Beevers got a new car! MK3 3door!
Post by: AdamBeevers on 24 December 2011, 00:23
The speed bumps by me stents dive but big enough to scrape on :( here's a pic, excuse the horrific passenger door... Also put various trim back on inside after fiddling with wires.. Also started cleaning the engine bat. Bought a new battery today now fitted and service bits which il do once I get some time, don't think they'll be any major updates this month as I'm so low on money.. Want to get new door sorted, and still got electric windows to fit and front GTI door cards.. Oh also fitted a fog blank as I was missing one.. Anyone got ideas for wiring the windows? I got the switches and door loom ect but no loom for in the car so going to be doing this myself, anyone know what colours are what and how about doing this, any help appreciated!

Happy new year everyone, had some bad news about my job yesterday.. So money's going to be tight for a few months and may have to start commuting further so need to make this car Eco! Figured it's doing 30mpg at the moment which is shocking for a 1.4! So any ideas on where to start looking for faults? Also noticed since I've owned it, when on idle, if you dab the throttle, revs go up obviously then come back down and tries to stall and sometimes does stall, this is literally just when you quickly dab the throttle, not flat to the floor or anything.. Some sort of sensor issue maybe? Any help with that and my fuel usage issue would be great, it's been serviced regularly (possibly not fuel filter) and all I've done to engine is put a cheapie come filter on.. Cheers!

Speculate to accumulate mate! If it's been a while, give it a good service. Run some decent fuel system cleaner through it, check tyre pressures are correct, and bin the sh!t cone filter! Check all vacuum lines for splits, breather hoses are solid and not spongy, clean out the throttle body, and get it on vagcom just in case. Make sure your water temp is reaching 90degs within 5-8 minutes and staing there too. All this should make a difference to fuel economy, but you will obviously have to spend to see benefits, not counting the cleaning of tb etc etc

I've checked things like tyre pressures, there's no obvious damage to any breathers ect but i will double check.. car gets to temperature no problem and sadly/annoyingly i have no diagnostics pin on my car! :( So no error codes for me! Engine code is ABD. Will check out the throttle body soon and clean it out.
Cheers

(The cone filter wouldnt really use more fuel would it? just encourages you to be heavy footed, which i've learnt not to be now )

Post by: Seanl on 01 January 2012, 17:20
It would just be sucking in hot air from the bay, causing the ecu to dump in fuel so it will be running rich. Original airbox with a cold air feed will make a noticeable difference.
Title: Re: Beevers got a new car! MK3 3door!
Post by: AdamBeevers on 02 January 2012, 09:26
Ah that's true forgot about that, there is also a vaccum pipe around that area which goes to nothing due to the air box being gone.. Ohh but I liked the filter, it was free! :( shall try this and see what MPG's I'm getting cheers
Title: Re: Beevers got a new car! MK3 3door!
Post by: Seanl on 02 January 2012, 11:40
Its only makes the bay look good! if u want a bit of noise, drill your airbox on the wing side. Cold air feed will also make a bit of extra noise too.

Hopefully going to be tinkering with the stance today, so that will be interesting! If i do, photo's to come im sure!

Plans sound good, even tho they've been done before...

as for stripping the rear out, that would be cool, I'd love to strip mine out but I need the rear seats, thought about removing all the trim carpets door cards and leaving the seats, but I think it would look abit wank,

That dash...Nooooooooo......

I wanted to get mine done as was hoping to be the only one

Don't see that much in the 'dub' scene but I think its the bollocks. Did you take the dash out?

What else are you going to get done to match?

And you still haven't painted that grill

Haha yeah swapped dashes so old one out new one in..
Glove box is going to get done but the rest I think I'm going to carbon wrap as some of the eagle eyed may see my heater controls done :)

Yes I know! The person who was meant to be doing it for peanuts is letting me down funny enough, I'm more desperate to get the door done! Letting the car down so much..  Cheers for the comments mug appreciated :)

haha, who wouldn't! Its real nice in person, great quality and add's that sence of "ive got a more expensive car than i actually have"... hahaha, sadly it is a MK3 Golf!

Small update, new wheels in the works. Small description: Dish and wide, with a tiny bit of stretch and some rolled arches.

Happy days!

Pay days arrived and a pay rise equals money spending!! Hopefully new wheels this weekend, keep it a surprise for now, but pictures will follow very soon im sure. Sadly they wont be anything stupidly wide, yet. Will have to wait to invest in an arch roller and some spacers, and tyre stretch, im a tad excited! This also means the G60's will be for sale, let me know if interested.

In other news, black interior light arrived and fitted :)

Like the dash, I want to do something with mine, but not sure yet. Vinyl wrap is nice, I'm going to be doing a bit of this at some point when I look at my interior.

haven't updated in ages. Attended VW Action Southwest earlier this month, was nice to get to a show and did spot one or two cars off the forum :)

Not many updates to be honest, just been enjoying driving it.. Got new lower profile tyres up front so no scrubbing there now. In the mids of motivating my self to do the smaller details/jobs that need to get done!

Hopefully updates this weekend!...

small bits of progress, trying to get back into the habit of spending some time on it!
Removed the battery tray due to an old battery leaking all the time and ruining the tray and making a mess in general, gave under the tray a clean too and rubbed the tray down and resprayed it quickly.
