Title: auto-size
Post by: Tazzy on 27 October 2011, 15:44
im not sure if this is the right term for it, but i know i have it on my site, if someone posts pictures too big, they go off the page, made worst to read when theres paragraphs with the pictures is the scroll bar is at the bottom, can the site auto-size to 600px wide?

I think not. Has to be done manually.

If you are using Photobucket, then select "edit" > Resize.

Then move the slider on the right (looks like mountains) so that it reads 100%

Now, if it is then far too big, use the sliders in the tool bar above the photo (width and height) keeping the "keep proportions" check box ticked.

Slide one of them back and forth until the picture fits.

Then Save and post.

I just dump camera files on PC, create a temp resize folder and use PIXresizer to batch resize the files.  Makes uploads to hosting sites much quicker too.

Good suggestions, but I think he's talking about other people posting images that do that. Personally if they're too large I cba scrolling sideways so carry on scrolling down and if more images are like that make read a post a PITA I don't read the rest of that post.

/\ as above poster

most of us do resize images, but not everyone, plus, not everyone knows the best width (px) for an image to be for forum use, so when they post, half the image and paragraph to that image is missing

For those that don't know I suggest 800x600.  Small file size but decent picture size.

Even that size has a small section to scroll across!

How small is the screen you're using?   I'm on a 17inch screen at the moment and it works fine.  I suspect my 15inch laptop screen would be just fine too

Yeah its got nothing to do with screen size... I don't even have to scroll to see it on my phone which has a 4" screen. If you have to scroll for a 800x600 image your resolution must be awful!
