Does a car need a front number plate.
-
i thought so ,why on the front? why dont the put lights above them like the rear? I dont want it on my new bumper.
-
its a joke, i swear its not needed.Ill say it fell off.
-
need one on the leading edge of you car, i.e bumper, and can get done for not having it there, even if its in window ( unlikely but you might get a bobbie in a bad mood )
could do what my mate did, get a few velcro sticky pads, put a few on the back of your bumper then a few on the bumper and you can stick it on then when it comes to shows ect the sticky pads on the bumper can be taken off.
or if you have a r32 bumper you could proberbly knock up some numberplate holder that can be wrap tied/ attached to the grills. (not sure if you could do this to the gti, not sure if the grills ect are big enough.
-
But why no lights above it, i only use my car at night.I know mot wouldnt like it.Sod them. Its a joke.Dont some countries use front number plates. :undecided: its a stuppied place to put it. :nerd: rears good.

Speed cameras wouldn't be able to get you if you had no front licence plate.

Are they allowed to take a picture from the front then :undecided:

Yup some do. The ones with red lenses facing your side of the road i think.
Yeah sad time i looked into it as well. Mine looks so much nicer with out a front plate. The threat of 3 points if you get a fussy copper really isn't work the scene points tho. Its gonna be pretty obvious it hasn't fallen off. Shameeee
-
Its daft as bikes only have rear. But its prob so they can do anpr to oncoming traffic
-
Truvelo cameras take your pic from the front as opposed to gatso's from the rear. I believe?
-
and the average speed cameras
-
its reflective no no lights needed, reason the lights are needed on rear is cos plate isnt reflective (for obvious reasons)
bikes got away with having front plates cos of crash regulations, lucky gits, means they get away with congestion charge too cos of it
-
it wrong there not needed on front.I swear they dont have front reading speed cams ,if your going to fast they wont have time to catch you/iv never seen one if i see one facing me i wont slow down its for the other lane.

It is impossible for you to travel too fast for a speed camera. ANPR cameras use front number plates to see if you're dodging your tax or insurance too.
And there are normal speed cameras that take a front picture, mainly as many people used to say they weren't driving to get off speeding charges amongst other measures.
-
Yes. It is a stupid question. And yes, there are front facing speed cameras.

Newish police speed guns read your speed as your coming up and they look through the lens and able to take a front facing picture, then theres the one with the violet/indigo filter with the 3 lines that uses the average speed between the lines to work out if your speeding, then junction camera's like the ones you find near the south circular they take a picture regardless at what angle as long as you go through the red after a timeout period is met... so on and on.
Plus don't regs state the number plate must be on the furthest front point on the car?
-
Why don't go you up a bit ^ and read them?
Enlighten yourself.

Good god man. They are not just for speed cameras - and as already pointed out, there are indeed front reading cameras and lots of them!
If you don't like it, take it up with the powers that be and in the mean time use a plate or risk 3 points/fine.
If it really upsets you so much have a good look into it as there are folks who have a little flip up/down device so its legal on road and slides away when you don't want to see it...
-
rear plates are also reflective...
