Title: 2nd speed wiper prob
Post by: lostplanetj on 29 April 2005, 23:38
i cant get the second speed to work on me MK2 90 GTI.
delay, 1st speed, rear and squirt works fine but move it into 2nd speed and it just stops.
took the switch completely apart and looks fine in there, had the motor on the bench and it does work fine when powering the green and red wires, so it must be a didgy wire in between, i tested the power that i believed to be the correct one in the plug with the switch set on 2nd speed and it only came back as 1 volt.
is there a common problem here? before i go ripping it all out?

Not sure but i think the wiper motors have some circuits/resistors or something in them that give the various speeds.  On a car i used to have one of these had knacked inside the motor so the result was missing my 'fast' wipe.

The score was to buy a new motor or not.

If i am right (and it would be worth checking ) then scrappy or gsfcarparts....  Or just save the money and park up whenever it rains too much for your normal setting!

problem solved,
turned out to be a loose plug in the back of the fuse board
