Microsoft don't do much hardware and certainly don't make laptops/PC's and we know what Windows 8 is more or less going to be like.
Google seem to be playing for Android phones/tablets and Chrome book netbooks as well as the Google TV's.
Apple, they keep things secret - until Jobs' autobiography :lipsrsealed: and contrary to popular belief I don't actually hate Apple, though that's another discussion.
But since Jobs' departure will the company stay on track with his plans? What about after their next big thing after Steve's last secret project?
2 Votes each, if you think of something else list it and I'll add it and you can change your votes.

Having just finished watching I, Robot, I wouldn't count robots out of future life. I'm actually quite looking forward to what is going to be around in 50, 60 or 70 years time. Think about what they had in the 40s, not much in terms of technological advance. But in 70 years look were we are now. Technology and innovation is a ball that once it starts rolling it just keeps picking up more and more speed and power. I don't think we're far off seeing some hugely innovative device/thing that completely changes the world. I, Robot style.

I think the mouse is fast going to become a thing of the past. Probably replaced by touch screen, but in the not so distant future mind control. There have already been dozens of examples of computers controlled by thought etc. They'll make it more robust, cheaper and accessible.

I seen on MacRumors there are a couple of exerts from Steve Jobs' new book, and it mentioned about Steve finally 'cracking' TVs. No one really knows what this means yet but an iTV has been circulating for some time now, and it's only gaining steam. I wouldn't be surprised.
that being said, I only voted for iTV as they won't release anything truly new and innovative, but they will find a problem and fix it, or fill the gap in the market. They've done it before, and they will most likely do it again.

No. Because itv.com is already taken.
C'mon.

Yeah I agree that an apple tv set is pretty much on the cards. The thing is that it will be all linked into itunes and icloud. Whether that's a good thing is still to be determined. It'll be controlled by your ipad/iphone/ipod touch and cost more than a Bang and Olufsen tv.
Apple fridge freezer is my bet for the post Steve Jobs. It's cool to have an Apple fridge because it's cool.

Perhaps Apple will invest in this....

Apple tv exsists already and is already linked to itunes & icloud, and is controlled by your iphone or ipad  & costs a measly £85

The next version people are on about is a TV with it all built in, with Apple in control of your media from start to finish. So doubt it would many HDMI ports, if any in later models. But this is something that's been flying around for years, we'll see if it comes to fruition.

A TV is 100% going to happen.
Who knows past that. Touch screen addition to the iMacs most likely will too.

iCryonics
Steve will be back!

Indeed Lion is the build up to touch screens on the Imac i think as it is set out as if it is touch screen interface.

If only

Something unique and truly innovative?
You're so funny Jay :lipsrsealed:
-
I don't think touch screens will be on desktop or laptop machines. You don't sit near enough the screen for it to be that useful.

Agreed, I hate those AIO units with a touch screens, but because other OEM's are pushing it some people keep saying Apple will/need/eventually may do so, to 'stay relevant' - however Apple have the art of saying NO down to a fine art. Now Jobs is gone, we'll see how/if they continue to say NO.
What's the evolution of the Mac or OSX going to be? Is everyone going to have an iPad with a dock, that's also a large monitor with keyboard/Magic track pad?
-
icar and igame you heard it here first, bumped into Steve jobs at the local texco a while back and well after sharing my ginsters with him he let slip about the next project
-
Sometimes I find touchscreens hard to use because my fingertips may be moist (sweat/water not ejaculation ) so I hope the traditional PC with it's mouse and keyboard aren't replaced. I rather tap at hardware keys than software, much easier.

you'll like one of these then, Khare

Conductive inkjet technology will be huge very soon.

do they do an apple version?

Khare, you knew when you were typing with that baby I can remember using my father and grand fathers computers with those
Bobo, here's full a listing, no sound tracks, some horrible and some nice.

Does anyone else think Apple may go down the touch pad keyboard?

they better not, much prefer the mechanical feedback. Apple did file this patent though

The current Apple keyboards are pretty poor in regards to click feel and mechanical feedback.

I much prefer my Apple keyboard to the clunky PC one i have at work, i don't really want mechanical feedback as you put it

I tend to make loads of silly typos at work on this crappy Dell keyboard. I find typing on the imac wireless keyboard much nicer, although the wired version (with the num pad on the r/h side) is still my preference.
Plus its harder to get crumbs inbetween the keys on teh imac version! (except for the old ones witht eh clear plastic bezels). I've seen some sh!te caught down there on some of the old ones in teh studio....

I have gone back to the wired one for the same reason plus got fed up changing the batteries lol need to buy some rechargeables, same as the mouse lol

Gott a say I find the battery life really good. It's been about 3 months since I last changed the keyboard batteries - the mouse probably gets changed every month though (I always forget to switch it off).
I bought the Apple rechargeable batteries when I got my iMac, but suppose it will depend on usage.
-
I think voice control on day to day items will become big.
-
Wouldn't be surprised if the cloud based OS becomes more prominnent. You dont need to preach to me about the dangers of having everything cloud based....but it wont stop them from buidling it.
Hasn't Google already dipped it's toe in this particular pond?

Sony Eneloops are brilliant and much, much cheaper.

Think I'll get a couple for my flash guns, ta for the heads up!

A few key bits of development going on in industry now will mean tech items will be 50% smaller than they currently are, 50% lighter and 50% cheaper and easier to make.
These are conservative figures.....
I know naturally things get smaller and better, but what is being developed is a complete re think on how we currently do it.
You will be able to make your own Iphone Ipad type gadgets at home on the PC in the next 10 years........

Doubt it. Lighter and cheaper to make yes, smaller....Not too sure. If you look at the mobile phone timeline they started off big, then got smaller and smaller and in the early-mid 2000's the "cool" phones were the ones that were tiny and light, but now the cool phones are the likes of Iphone 4s, HTC Incredible, Desire HD, Galaxy S2 etc. Compare them to phones of 10 years ago and yes they're thinner but they're a lot bigger.
