Firmware flash of the router?
what you mean as in reset it or, upgrade the firmware..
-
Upgrade of the firmware. Usually you can go to the brands website and pick up a firmware upgrade, which will require a ethernet connection (in order to stay connected to the router) and it will upload the latest version.
They are sometimes not always automatically updated. :undecided:

I have the same problem with, but I'm with Virgin also pluged in directley at the back ? Does my head at times !!

Have you tried going to system preferences then click assist me it should test the connection. I am virgin also but don't have any problems with my router my imac is connected via ethernet but have run it on wireless also & not had any problems. I can't see it being an issue with your iMac, how old is it ?

1. to check whether it's the line or the computer ask someone with a laptop (any make will do) to come over and connect to the wifi. If they are having the same problem then it's the wifi. If not then its the imac.
2. Plug a laptop into the router using an ethernet cable and test the stability of the connection. If it's steady as a rock then.
3. have you changed home telephones recently? or bought a new microwave?
Strange question I know but some dect phones and microwaves can interfere with wireless routers. Something to do with the frequency they operate at (2.4Mhz?). I would try changing the channel the router is using. For more information on how to do this here are a few links.

http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=how+to+change+channel+of+wifi+router&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
Or check the adsl filter that you have on your phone, it might have broken and the home phone is interfering with the ADSL line.

+1
I am on Virgin, have had everything set up for about 18 months without fail and last week my MBP started dropping the connection. Without even testing anything, I switched the router channel and havent had any problems since.
Just assumed a neighbour had changed thier internet supplier / set up (noticed a new sky wifi signal had popped up).

fixed it i think, but gonna give it a few days of testing, i set up static ip on all devices upon my network, and apparently macs dont like that so switch it back to dhcp. which is abit annoying as i used static ip for my virtual servers but ow well..
