It's a Golf
-
Carbed, mk3, not worth a lot.
-
Thanks All
Not looking to sell as I have just picked it up as a reliable run around for the Mrs and kids. I am hoping that as it is a simple set up it should live up to the reliable bits. I had thought it was a MK 3 after reading through the site, so that confirms I am looking in teh right section.
This is my first Golf so I am learning as I go, are there any know faults with this type that I should be aware of, or is it just going to go on forever............

That looks tidy for its age!
-
1.4spi (50bhp ish) very slow but cheap to insure, oh and best/cheapest way to add power is fit a 1.6!!
idle issues are common (spi rubber mount or vacum pipes are common) and rusty sills (jacking points) are other problems
-
AEX engine, looks like fjord blue in colour?
Could do with a drop more coolant
-
Carbed, mk3, not worth a lot.
It is single point injection :nerd:

In reality it's a electronic carb (more carb like than injector)

Thanks
I should have said it is a 1.6 rolling Stone edition (Whatever that is) with 92k on the clock. A bit of rust on the back where the badge was just under the light cluster and a few bubbles on the rear wheel arches, so they will be the first thing to get sorted. That and a Key less entry system from RightCLICK, as it seems so old fashioned having to put the key into the lock to open and close....... :undecided:
MOT till Sep 13 and 4 month Tax all for the princely sum of £425, which I am happy with. It seems to be fine at the moment and pulls along nicely so I wont be messing with it at the moment as I need it reliable over the winter.
Now I know it is definitely a MK3 Ill post other relevant questions in there.

Where to start......
Not being a GTI you are blessed that it hasn't got lots of plastic trim. MK3 GTIs if not looked after suffer badly with rust in these areas.
It looks very tidy in the pics so hopefully its pretty rust free. Other bits have already been pointed out.
My other halfs sister has a polo with the same engine and it's been fine apart from the odd easy fix oil leak here and there. As a run around it'll be a good car, just keep your eye out for rust underneath and you'll be fine.

where is the engine

MPi, AEE?
Not SPi.
-
Hang some tires on the sides, and call it "Done"

Well I have had it for a week now and am loving it. I bought it as a run around for the wife and kids. I have an A3 company car as a daily driver, so far she has not even had a drive in it as I keep nicking it. It won't win any competitions but I am loving it so far.
I have done some reading up on this site, particularly in the how to section so there will be some new interior and exterior lighting going in soon. I have done plenty of old land rovers in my day so this modern thing will be fun to work on. I can't see it moving on too soon and I like the simplicity of the engine to work on. I can get all the kids in there to help if need be.
What a great little car and a fantastic site to learn from.
See you all in the Mk 3 section soon.

I bought a 1.4 off a friend at work for £400. it's clean like yours & I've honestly got to say it's one of the best cars I've ever had. I bought a VR6 because it be better on the motorways & a bit nicer inside what with the leather etc but I always love driving the little 1.4 every now & then, sometimes I wonder if I did the right thing buying the VR6 ! lol
Glad you're enjoying it !
