I don't know much on the gearbox front so hoping someone can help!
I'm looking at replacing the gearbox in m '91 MK2 GTi 1.8 16v.
Do you know if this is more hassle than its worth putting an 02a box from a Corrado (link below)? Or is it pretty straight forward for someone that knows what they are doing! Which i don't unfortunately.

Or would it be better just to stick with a straight swap?

you would be better with a straight swap tbh, lots of things needed to go 02a, pedal box, shifter etc. Its only necessary if you have lots more power tbh and even then you will lose the nice short ratios of the 020 so have to look into changing the final drive as well.
why are you changing? if you want a stronger box get someone to change the rivets holding the diff in with bolts, there is a kit available I believe.

Thanks for the reply, only changing cos my box is whining, crunching and starting to be a pain when i change into 2nd!
Not bothered about power, just a gearbox that works like a normal gearbox
I will keep my eye out for a straight swap i think.
