Any help massively appreciated...
1991 Mk2 16v - not used much these days as I've got a company motor. Wanted to take it out for a blast this afternoon but...
a) wouldn't start without the nice RAC man coming along with a battery pack despite it always having a trickle charger/maintainer keeping the battery up to speed...not even an attempt to churn over. RAC fella (loves V-Dubs after a cup of tea and chat) said alternator sending out charge, battery receiving it and all else looked good...
b) the bloody windscreen washer jets won't turn off...had to leave them running while I tried to find the fuse.
As I said...any help appreciated as I know F-all about electrics.

I would guess your battery is knacked if its not holding a charge and the alternator is kicking out good volts. This can happen when they are not used for a while.
As for the windscreen jets... sorry too much for me!

can you hear the starter click when you turn the ignition, might be seized/stuck/jammed from not being used in a while
as for your windscreens washers, just disconnect the connector on the water bottle for the mean time!

Thanks for the answers...just got off the phone with the local VW garage (they have a bloke who's a Mk2 genius who has been really cool in the past) and it's a knackered windscreen washer switch.
What's not so genius is the price they have quoted...over a ton!!
Battery and all links are apparently in good orderso have borrowed a mate's charger to see if my old and dusty one is up the creek.
Will start the search for cheaper alternatives.
Did I hear gsf being shouted at the back??
