Ok ive a problem on my 1991 8v gti. When the handbrake is on the washers/front wipers work as they should. When i release the handbrake the warning light on the dash stays lit very slightly. Then i have no front washers and the wipers work constantly even in the park position. Apply the handbrake and the front washers work again and the wipers work as they should on the stalk. Cant get my head around what the problem might be. Possibly a bad earth problem? Any help or ideas greatly appreciated.

hiya mate,
Ive had an issue like that, not with wipers but rev counter it would jump to red line and back not altering the revs but just had a mind of its own, i changed ignition amp, spark plugs and leads, cured the problem immensley then changed the earth and saw a massive difference, i dont know for sure but start with the earth, then do the same maybe re-gap the spark plugs?.
Good luck
