Post by: Craig1.8T on 20 October 2011, 19:14
hello i recentley perchased some Philips Blue Vision bulbs hoping they would be better than the original, they arent really. im looking for the closest possible light to HID without actually getting HID's seeing as they are illegal! just want a nice crisp white light

Not necessarily.. Projectors alone do not give off better light.

I can confess that although I am against aftermarket HIDs especially when it comes to incorrect fitment, I have in the past dabbled with brighter, whiter h4 bulbs which are technically illegal.

The first time I made a relayed Headlight loom for one of my MK1s I found that there were some great bulbs available proving you have the correct wiring and switchgear that can handle them.

Ring Rally Sport bulbs - Very white light but range from 80-130w
Ring Sports Blue - as above with a slight blue tint
Ring All Weather - Give a yellowish tint and work great in damp conditions

i got some bosch ones from halfrouds, cost about a tenner so not too bad, seem decent bulbs, im sure theres better ones out there but they give off a pretty good white light, they look ok, and seem to light up the road miles better than any other bulb ive had so cant complain :)

I found that projectors with normal bulbs vs reflectors with normal bulbs the projectors are worse!

The philips extreme ones i had previously where alot better than standard ones.

Love my HIDS  Fitted properly, don't blind other drivers (don't get flashed by people coming the other way) Headlight adjusters fitted.

Yep... My 28 year old mk1 lights with upgraded loom/relays with standard lenses and bulbs are better than my 2 year old daily with projectors.

Yes but the big difference is they are designed for them.

Nope beam pattern is the main problem, cannot see the remap thing happening (I think they scrapped it anyway  :undecided: )

IF you retrofit then you need levellers and headlight washers.
