Title: 97 VR6 electrics into 96 8v GTI fuse box

Thinking about a vr6 conversion and wondered am I right in thinking that the vr6 wiring loom will plug straight into the 8v fuse box or will it need alot of modding/splicing?
I've searched on here and found the conversion thread but doesn't really explain on this subject in depth, remember reading in PVW that a guy who did a vr6 conversion had to buy an early vr6 so the loom was compatible. What years are they classing as early and what would be the differences?

Should be plug and play, you will need to replace the clocks as well.

Nice one cheers Wayne, yeah thought I'd have to do the clocks aswell. Sounds it could be a pretty easy job apart from the pedal box.

Later pedal box is the same so the slave cylinder should fit straight on.

no need to change master cylinder they are the same

if the 8v is a later one (not early like mine) pedal box is the same so that does not need to be changed

fuse box is same too

If you mean the clutch master cylinder, the 8v doesn't have one as its cable clutch but there will be a blanking plate fitted if its a later model which is just bolted on

brake master cylinders are all the same though

I did mean slave as it will need to be added to an 8v.

Cheers guys, can't wait to start the conversion, well as soon as I've found the right donor vr6.

Make sure you keep the key off the donor car and swap the coded chip over be carefull not to break it because they are tight to get out. Do you have a complete donor car ? If yes then your conversion will be easy it's all straight swap

My vr6 donor is delocked and has a after market alarm.
I want to keep my factory fitted laser alarm in my gti.
What do I have to do to keep my alarm? will the vr6 engine and ecu plug into that?

I have not got a clue about electrics.
I will be able to put it in fine, but worried it won't start lol
