which 205/40/17 tyres would you folks recommend?

I've always been a fan of Goodyear F1 Eagle's. Had a few sets of them.  :wink:

...BUT, I'm trying out Avon Cooper's at the moment (cos I got them really cheap)

i have avon zzii's on at minute. they are good. soft rubber. grippy. not so harsh
