Title: DIY Sun Gun
Post by: Seanl on 15 October 2011, 21:31
Just seen it on DW. Anyone got one? For those that have not seen it, (cat stepped on the laptop and closed it down so no link as I cant find it now ) its basically a cheapy 12v drill/driver with a 12v solux lamp in that is exactly the same as a 3M 400 odd quid Sun Gun but for less than £25. Think I have an old 12v drill under the stairs so may give this a bash!

I`ve bought one off a mate on DW, used it a couple of time so far and i was really impressed at the difference it made when doing 50/50 shots and swirl/buffer trail spotting

Does yours have the solux lamp or the halogen lamp in it? Obviously alot cheaper again if its just the halogen lamp.  :nerd:

I'v read the post on DW, very impressive. Great thinking from that man! I may do it but it's finding the time to go do it! I am having a go at my first use of DA today so if I can't find any swirls then I may do it today!

Thats the one. I read the original by a guy from eastern europe somewhere that started off by using a electric hairdryer. These are all adaptations of that.  Now I just need to find a diy guide for a PTG!

Whats a reasonable price for one then? There are a few on egay, (most from poland) but alot look a bit shifty and I dont wanna end up with a piece of crap that gives false readings, and just is'nt up to the job.

You always get a few coming up on the for sale pages on DW and CYC usually around £140

I made my own sun gun too. Just used a standard bulb.

The solux lamp is really only needed for colour matching when painting.
