Title: Remaps and DSG ?
Post by: Graeme4130 on 13 October 2011, 14:31
I've been having a good flick through here, read several threads on various types of remaps and have decided that I'll take the plunge on my 55 plate 5dr GTI with a stg1 remap
The only concern I have, and one that doesn't seem to have been addressed on any of the threads, is whether it's going to over stress the DSG and if any of the available remaps (ie revo or superchips etc) are more compatible with this type of gearbox than others ?
I'm looking at going to stage one and around 250bhp to maintain some smoothness and just get that little bit extra grunt for overtaking etc
Any advice from the collective knowledgable or DSG owners experience would be greatly appreciated
For info, mines on 43k and the DSG was serviced at 40k and had a 'healthy' report back from Vw when it was done.
Cheers
Graeme

DSG boxes cope well with a remap; far better than was first suggested.

Hurdy was running over 350bhp in his ED30 with no problems

I was running over 400 bhp and 500lbft of torque using nitrous injection and the gearbox still went strong. it is the torque what kills the clutch packs over time though.

As they say, many a car has been remapped with no issues (well non that where the fault of the remap).

Crack on.

Its the boys running manual gearboxes who are keeping the clutch companies in profit.  I have not had any issues with DSG gear boxes and remapping.

I hit the factory torque limit on my ed 30 and had the gearbox remapped (by Simon of e-maps), but you won't get near it with a stage 1 map, so go for it!

Glad you got it sorted Steve   Bit cheaper than a replacement box!!
