Title: How to extend dipped beam light?
Post by: Joseph on 11 October 2011, 22:44
Could someone tell me how to extend the dipped beam light please.
I want to see just where it becomes dark on the road ahead so i need to adjust them. Is there a screw somewhere perhaps?
Thanks

Why don't you use main beam?
Adjusting the dipped beam any higher (upwards) will dazzle the oncoming traffic. Factory setting is -1.0%. Any lower than 0.5% and you'll have an MOT failure.

Also, raising your dip will point your main beam at the tree tops as well.

I'm not sure how far you want to see in front with dip beam, but I've always thought mine were perfectly adequate.

I cannot drive around with the main beam on all the time.
My point is that i think my dipped beam must be lower than factory setting and i want to return it to that.
My aim is not to dazzle, it is to be able to see what is coming without it being a surpruse.

Standard head light bulbs are crap. Get some Osram night breakers or any of the other up-rated bulbs.

I fitted philips extreme vision last night and although the light ouput is better, it is not far enough down the road which is why i want to know how to raise the beam. The light only need to go a few metres further down the road for it to be in the place i want it

I had exactly this issue, i thought my head lights were a little low even at the highest setting so i got some nightbreakers which like you say helped a little but not much, i had the level checked at first service and they were spot on apparently? i'm used to it now but they're no where near as good as my mk5!

Its not unknown for Golfs to come from the factory set incorrectly.

I CBA to go and look at mine, but there should be two adjustment screws on each light, accessed through holes in the slam panel. One is for up and down, the other is for left and right.
