Check your SMTP server settings are correct:

http://help.virginmedia.com/system/selfservice.controller?CONFIGURATION=1002&PARTITION_ID=1&TIMEZONE_OFFSET=&USERTYPE=&VM_CUSTOMER_TYPE=Cable&CMD=VIEW_ARTICLE&ARTICLE_ID=37917

Don't worry about the procedures, just look at the settings.

smtp.virginmedia.com and make sure it is set to use authentication (your username and password) for outgoing email (smtp server).

Imagine that, Virgin having the incorrect settings (for NTL world addresses ) on their own website (http://help.virginmedia.com/system/selfservice.controller?CMD=VIEW_ARTICLE&ARTICLE_ID=37919&CURRENT_CMD=SEARCH&CONFIGURATION=1002&PARTITION_ID=1&USERTYPE=1&LANGUAGE=en&COUNTY=us&VM_CUSTOMER_TYPE=Cable)

Glad you're all sorted now bud :afro:

For future reference, don't enable smtp / outbound authentication IF you have an NTL world email address.
