Hey guys ive got a 1999 (T) 1.8T with the AGU engine fitted.... Ive been looking through peoples projects on here and have seen some good gains from a R-tech remap with a FMIC and a Ko3s turbo fitted.... Now my car has done quite alot of miles 188k To be precise  lol My question is will this just kill the car or will be alright OR should i fit another engine with less mileage and then go for the above mods?
Any help is appreciated
Cheers Lee

can any of you guys shed some light on this?

with high mileage cars a remap will make the engine parts that are weak break quicker, also depending on the history of ur engine etc
-
ask a tuner direct on this one mate

This is what i was thinking, I may just lookout for another AGU engine with less mileage then get it remapped etc.... My car was used via motorway miles due to being a company car prior to me buying it lol

I was going to PM guys at R-tech tuning but i cant seem to send private messages? lol

you need ten posts to pm tht should be you now mate has your engine ever been rebuilt

Not that i know of fella, It really does drive well though my boss has got a 1.8T too on a Y plate (on 173k) and he said mine drive's so much better then his and seems more responsive/quicker lol

Nick may reply now it's in here or give them a bell. What stage of tune were you looking to go for? 1 or 2+?
-
It has high miles but if it has been looked after it will be fine.
-
ive got a 4 motion mate with 184k on the clock so i know there ok at that mileage but some tuners are funny about mileage but i suppose any decent 1 would do a check on your car before hand

There are weak points with high miles, weak fuel pumps, worn oil pumps and blocked pick up pipes. Apart from that I have not really had any issues tuning 1.8T which have gone around the clock. The cams and cranks seem to last forever, I think the most I have see from an agu was 227bhp 245lbft with 211k, only issues after mapping was lean fuel in the torque band due to a old and lazy fuel pump.
I will be tuning my wifes AGU with 165k on the clock with my hybrid turbo to around 280bhp-280lbft using the stock engine as it is now, I also have my mates AGU with 175k which we are going to test a ebay k04-001 to its limits.
IMHO and from working with around on average 4 AGUs alone per week for the last 5 years I would say you have nothing to worry about, as long as the supporting items are up to the job...

Okay brilliant, well im looking to come to you guys soon once ive sourced myself a ko3s turbo and fit a fmic, I think i may possibly buy another AGU engine with less miles incase mine goes bang once all of the abobe modifications are made.
Thanks for clearing that up for me an expect a pm soon.

Another quick question this may seem silly me asking but will the fuel consumption become horrendous? I only ask that as i use it daily lol so i do want some form of good mpg even if i do drive it like a old grandad lol
-
alot of peeps on here have found mpg better after a remap
-
+1 ^

That sounds promising lol, I do obviously want a remap and ko3s for more power but at the same time i do want the mpg to better or remain the same to some degree especially as im usually on the road a fair bit :)

Maybe after the first few months  because after my remap, every chance I got I was booting it

Can I ask why does everyone want the ko3s?? I thought you only needed the bigger turbo over 220bhp?

Its not just about the peak numbers, the k03s flows much better across the whole rpm range. The k03 is maxed out at 200bhp where the k03s can be bolted on to make 225-230bhp, or with an actuator upgrade 240bhp.
