Just thinking ahead about tweaking my Golf with a nice chip and wondered what decision everyone else has made.....safe driving folks.
-
Don't chip/remap unless you are willing to declare it.
Its just not worth it for a few extra £Â£Ã‚£Ã‚£'s
-
that's what i had been thinking deep down.....I've heard some insurers charging 10% of the original premium for every 10bhp you add to the car so for an increase of approx 40bhp that would be 40%. does anyone know if this is fairly standard practice or are any insurance companies nicer when it comes to dealing with chipped cars than others?? many thanks. :undecided:

there is no way they could tell any ways if you remaped the car as the companys say it invisable the the human eye

Its not invisible, I can assure you remaps can be seen with the right equipment.
All it takes is an insurance company intent on invalidating your cover in the event of a claim.

Yeah but if you have a bump and they decide to look in to it you got a prob

Imagine smashing your motor and then being told that you're not getting any money for it cos you didn't declare that mod. I declared my chip and it only made a slight difference

yeah i think declaring it would definitely be the way to go for me, would be gutted if lost the car in accident, and my premium is currently around £500 so even if the charge me 50% £750 wouldn't be end of the world !
