Sincere apologies if this topic has been done to death - I've searched endlessly, but can't find the answer I'm looking for.
I bought the wife a new GTI last month. It was in the showroom, so came as it was, rather than being a factory order. What it has is an RCD 310 with DAB. What I want to know is, can I upgrade to the RCD 510 unit and still utilise the existing DAB? Or is it integrated into the unit? If it can be done, is that a DIY job or will it need coding etc.?
If there's an existing thread on this, a link would be really helpful.
Many thanks guys.

I think it will be integrated into the unit, therefore you'll lose your DAB by changing (based on me looking to add DAB to my RCD510 a year or so ago - everyone told me it was integrated).
The holy grail is a reverse camera suitable oem head unit with DAB. Why VW don't do this I can't understand...

There is a couple on ebay at the minute, quite expensive though!

Thanks guys, for your responses. I may go for one of the flea-bay options. Compared with OEM head units for my TT, these are very cheap!!

Has your 310 got the new white on black illumination, or is it the old blue back lit one?
If it's the former, I would be interested if you want to sell it.

I read somewhere if you have the DAB option you can't have the rear view camera as well, thats stupid VW for you.

It's the white on black, so if I do make the switch I'll get back to you. Need to check out a bluetooth solution as well so it depends how things all fit together. Plus, I'm not sure if it's plug n' play or more complicated (VCDS coding etc.)

As others have said there is 3 versions of the RCD-510
RCD-510
RCD-510 with rear view camera input
RCD-510 with DAB.
The DAB versions easy to spot it has a DAB button on the front panel.

And a dab aerial connection on the back too, for anyone considering upgrading for DAB you might need some sort of aerial wire.

Has anyone looked into a £140 CKO aftermarket DAB unit?...

Seems to suggest it could be integrated into the oem head unit, although it also offers a separate screen and controller, so I'm non the wiser, and frankly always a little wary of half baked aftermarket products...
Or for silly money (£420), there's this...

Yes. I did not mension this as the original thread poster has a RCD-310DAB unit so i expect would have the extra rear window conections and interface box from the factory so should be a simple plug and play upgrade for them just not everyone else.
