The theme for this month, chosen by Shepgti is 'Landscape' (and some of you thought last month's was broad!)
Rules:
1.) Only one shot per person DO NOT POST MORE THAN ONE IMAGE IN THIS THREAD.
2.) All shots must relate to the theme
3.) All shots must be your own work
4.) Photoshoppery is allowed (But detail of what's been done included with submission)
5.) A naked hotty will clearly win.
6.) Details of equipment (Rig, Off camera flash etc) used should be submitted with entries.
7.) Cut off date for entries is the last day of the month at 11:59pm.
8.) The photo must be taken for this competition, entries from your archives will NOT be accepted.
I'm stressing the above. Any doubt and I'll want to see the EXIF data, motherf*ckers.
The last submission will be October 31th September at 11.59PM.
Crack on, shooters!

Lets get the ball rolling then...

When: Today
Location: Cadbury Castle (old hill fort in Somerset)
Equipment: Canon D60 w/50mm prime lens
'Photoshoppery': Comprised of around 24 images originally (360 degrees) but cropped to approx 10 images worth (just less than a 180 degree view). Stitched together using free program called 'Hugin'. Sky levels adjusted in GIMP.

Cracking start to the October Comp thread, nice one Chris!
-
Thanks TJG, I'm not sure how large the image will appear on other PC's once you click the link, but on mine its 4000x350 (ish) but on my netbook it's around a quarter of the size :undecided:
If its a problem I can upload to another site without size limitations (Flickr?)
-
Nice shooting Chris.

Im not to sure about this image, it was taken overlooking the sea from a tiny fishing village in Denmark this summer called Bisserup but I like it so meh. Just a little HDR and layer masking, nothing more and nothing less. Taken on NIKON D5000 ft. 10-20mm
THIS IMAGE HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN FROM THE COMPETITION DUE TO INFRINGEMENT OF RULES.

Sam, I'd like to draw your attention to point 8) in the rules.
8.) The photo must be taken for this competition, entries from your archives will NOT be accepted.
Try again, please.
-
But but but it hasnt been seen by the public until now!? :lipsrsealed:
-
Do you really think I'm going to be interested in this aside?
-
EDIT: Upload fail, I'll try again later.

How are you guys taking these landscapes? Is it like the widest wide angle lends ever?!

I assumed multiple shots stitched together to create a panorama :undecided:

-
Hugin is free (open source) and automatically looks for corresponding points between a series of images. Bigger overlap is better though, 3 of my images wouldnt stitch together as there weren't enough corresponding points. Although I covered 360 degrees, the scenery behind me wasn't interesting (and would have resulted in a huge image) so I cropped it to approx 180 degrees.
Hugin will also use a macro to adjust exposure and contrast settings for all images. Pretty foolproof but it takes ages to get around it!

the auto contrast/exposure didnt work too great :undecided:
-
I used CS5 for mine which corrects the lens vignetting on each shot when it merges them. Well handy! I then tweked the exposure in Lightroom.

-
I personally use ptgui (http://www.ptgui.com/gallery/) which is a commecial GUI for panorama tools the same base that hugin uses.
for those using PS, check out either the trial of ptgui or hugin as panorama tools is much more accurate than PS and much quicker too.
-
I'd be surprised if it's quicker.
I select the shots in Lightroom, right click and select "Merge to Panorama in CS5", CS5 opens in about 5 secs, I tick a couple of boxes and click go, 20 secs later I have the panorama completed and popped back into lightroom for inclusion in my batch edits.

try stitching a complex pano shot in PS
-
ive used ptgui and cs5 for merging pano's and both are pretty similar tbh
-
What do you mean by complex? The one I posted is 6 shots.

something like http://www.flickr.com/photos/ridg/5277662659/ which is about 40 images.

Maybe this should be in a separate thread, will make it easy to refer back to.

That's a VAST improvement on what you were posting a month or two back! Well done.
-
Here is my entry! It's been a while! Slight adjust on Photoshop, taken from the top of Beeston Castle in Cheshire yesterday!

Cheers for that!! Nice to get a pat on the back now and again.
-
Raven, that's great. Love the depth with the stone in the foreground.
Is that one shot cropped ?
Just waiting to get my replacement 50mm lens, then I'll be out shooting.
-
Yea thats one shot, taken wide angle, probably one of my fav shots of the day! Cheers!
-
Landscape is all about getting the clouds to 'weigh' as much as possible. Thats what normally makes the better shots
-
ok heres my entry.
glad to see people trying new techniques

Nikon D3000. Just driving down a country lane and stopped to grab a Snap.
Levels tweaked in Lightroom.
-
Not made it to the countryside yet, but didn't see anything saying it had to be a country landscape, if I'm wrong, I'll take it down (sorry DH)
My first attempt at a stitched panorama too. Might try another tomorrow when I'm out in Kent.
14 shots, 50mm lens on m/f. Stitched in Hugin because photoshop kept crashing.

I can't get on with it.

That would be rather ridiculous and preclude those in towns from entering. The entry is fine!
-
Cheers DH.
I did make it to the countryside yesterday, so I got a rather moody sky on this one. I just need to decide which one's better before the deadline (and then remove the other entry).

Since today is the deadline, I think I'm going to enter the city/landscape just to be different.
So my entry is this (taken at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich)
