Title: Coolant light
Post by: fireman sam on 08 October 2011, 20:42
Hi guys, not been on in an eternity, the mk4 is long gone , so is the first mk5 and the mk6...

Currently running a 55 mk5 poverty spec s model.

Coolant light has come on, on the mrs just now, going to investigate in the morning

Red light, bong and light flashing,

Does this sound like like the sensor activating for a low level?

Cheers lads

If the warning light is going off and the coolant level is fine, then you need a new coolant expansion bottle. Its a common problem, had mine replaced last yr.

My last MK5 and A3 both had leaking radiators - common problem as they leak from the bottom corners

You could have a look around the black water flange on the right hand side of the engine block just opposite the battery, known problem to have leak there on a mk5:

Thanks for all the replies...

Checked the level first thing and after work tonight..

No drop in level, so it must be a fairly slow leak.

Going to keep an eye on it and check all your guys suggestions ASAP

Cheers
