so ive moved my music collection from my portable hard drive, to my main drive thats kept in my bedroom. ive deleted all the music from itunes and dragged and dropped it back in from its new location on the new hard drive, it takes 3 hours to process and sort itself out, then when it says its complete, nothing shows up in itunes
am i doing something wrong?
-
So from your main drive you are dragging and dropping in to itunes and after 3 hrs your getting nothing yes?
-
yes
-
Not sure mate have u tried a bit at a time instead... If it was me i would uninstall itunes reinstall and try a smaller amount bud.. There is no reason why it shouldnt be working
-
firstly ensure itunes is not making a copy of what you are imorting by going
edit - prefernces - advanced - uncheck the "copy files to itunes media folder"
in itunes go to file - add to library - and tell itunes where to look for the songs
itunes is a piece of crap. shame there's no alternative
-
Close down iTunes.
Delete the files ONLY (not the folders) in the folder like:
C:\Users\Your logon ID\Music\iTunes
These are the records iTunes uses so it knows where your music is.
Now open iTunes, which will give you a funny look shrug its shoulders and say 'I've got nothing for you, mate'. In the default window there should be the option to search your computer for music. Do this. It will crawl the computer and find everything.

iTunes on a PC Sucks A$$
FFS apple, you do most other things well, but iTunes on PC is a joke.

For a start runs dog slow when you have a decent sized library on anything lowish spec, and also because it's trying to be all things to all men, media player, music library manager, ripper, online shop, recomendation engine, Mobile device manager and patcher, etc...
Plus the UI design stinks.
-
my mac book pro is less than a year old and i got an upgraded on most of the specs, but i got it all
sotred now - downloaded a song from the itunes store, and everything magically appeared, with 4 copies,
so my library had 110,272 songs in it. needless to say i deleted everything and started again
Thanks itunes!

So put the little sucker back in its box - just just it to play music. It's quite good at that.

I think it's just a matter of configuring it to suit your needs. I honestly have no problem with it - it just works.
It'd be even better if I could bring myself to buy another Airport Express so we can have Airtunes running in our house again, but I object to paying £70 for something that expires 13 months after you bought it.

Airtunes?
pah.
One word. SONOS.
Proper job.

I'm not a big fan of itunes, mainly because the sync function is badly designed. I don't want to delete all my photos/music/apps and replace them with the ones in itunes. I want to append it manually, however if this option wasn't clicked originally you have to wipe all your data off the device and start again manually.
For instance I wanted to add some photos from iphoto to my phone however when I went to sync a photo album itunes asked if it was ok to replace all the photos in the phone with the photos from iphoto. No I did not want to do that, I wanted to have the old photos still on the phone and to add the photos from iphoto. Would I tunes let me do that? Not that I could work out.
The problem with apple is that all there manuals and help are sparse and incomplete. All the features are hidden until you have to search/google them.
I like some apple stuff like Time Machine and OSX but alot of it is complete crap, like apple tv, ipad, itunes, airport express.

One word. SONOS.
No offence, but I don't want to spend all my money on some superfandango wireless music system. I just want to plug into the aux in on my various stereos. SONOS would be massive overkill and hugely over budget.

but alot of it is complete crap, like apple tv,
Whats crap about Apple Tv ? i use mine regularly to play films & music from my computer on my tv/sound system i run it wired on my network but i am just about to buy another one for my bedroom as it works just as well wirelessly.
It is jailbroken though via seasonpass & have atv flash running on it which makes loading software onto it very easy.

I have never bothered jailbreaking my iphone can't see the point but my atv had to be done so i could watch all formats of films without buying them just from apple plus has many other features thanks to atv flash
