pretty sure its 17mm on the rear

Im assuming you mean to use them so that you can hold the top of the strut with an allen key through the ring spanner. Most of the rear struts I have seen have a flat or somesuch that you can hold without geting in the way of undoing the nuts with a normal spanner. You can buy sockets that can be held by a spanner that I tend to use for the front struts. If you havent done the job before, make sure you have something to undo and re-do the silly castelated nut.

One that fits... You don't need a ring spanner for the rear as there is no stupid slotted nut!!
Simple metric ratchet set will do all that you need too do!

Yeah I'm having trouble
With the slotted nut on the front! Pain in the ass it is' trine find a socket set that allows you to gold the nut and allow the Allen key in swell as turn it using a adjustable connected to it to turn it! Fun times hey!

have a look on the second page on this thread

If you mean the castellated nut under the main nut then a screwdriver and hammer will do the trick at a push but I tend to attack a roughly similar sized socket or bit of tube with a grinder to get it off (I then lose that and have to do it again next time lol). It helps to either do this bit whilst the car is on the floor or to jack the front upright up to releave the tension on the nut.

cheers for all the help guys, swan neck ring spanner is the way forward! lol
