Linzi has had the Wi-Fi only one for about 6 months and she loves it which is high praise as she is an avid book reader (must over over 2000 books!!)
IMO its a great piece of kit; easy to use, easy to read :smiley:
It's lighter than most books; last upto about a month on a single charge (fairly heavy usage)
Lots of free books available too. Only thing you'll find is that older books tend to be more expensive than their paperback counterparts as VAT is applied to e-books
You can browse the Kindle store directly from the Kindle meaning you don't need a PC. Also if you sync with the server and have the Kindle App on your phone you can pick up the reading where you left off so ideal if you've got a spare 10 minutes or so and use your phone to read a chapter or two
The new version can only store about half the amount of books as the keyboard version. Also the US are actually getting a touchscreen version!!

thanks for the reply dude... i just haven't seen one in the flesh, working as it were... i think I might aim for this as thing for crimbo where people can buy amazon/kindle vouchers.. job done
the one i linked to is the new £90 touchscreen version... i didn't like the idea of the keyboard anyway

there is a piece of software called calibre which manages all your :lipsrsealed: "free" books. you just import and click send and it emails them to the kindle. the missus has one and loves it.

looks pretty good and for the price its not too bad :)
was looking into getting something like this as i enjoy reading but never have time/a decent book at home or with me when i have a free ten mins.
downloaded the kindle app on my phone but cant get it to work and dont really like the whole 5 lines being on a screen thing cause its on a mobile.

My wife has the Kindle (keyboard version) and loves it. It's very easy to read (unlike backlit phones and iPads), light, great selection of books (some free or v.cheap) and it's a great device.
The downsides of the new version (the keyboard-less one) is that it has less battery life and won't do audio books. Other than that, it'll be as good as the others.
You basically make your money back after about 10-20 books. If you want a book that's just come out, the hardback could be £15, but the kindle version might be £5, so only 9 books of that price to make back your £89.
It's so easy too, you can browse the Kindle store from the Kindle and download straight away, or you can browse from a computer and just send the book to your Kindle. If you order your Kindle from your own Amazon account, it arrives already sync'd to your Amazon account so you can buy books right away without having to configure the account (apart from your Wifi password).
It syncs every time you read a book, so you can pick up where you left off using a Kindle reader app on your phone or PC that's sync'd to the same account. (IE I have the Kindle app on my phone, it's sync'd to my wife's Kindle account, so I can pickup any book she's bought/downloaded).
It's very smart, and if you delete anything from the Kindle's memory, you can just get it back without having to pay again.
